Default Data plate

In an effort to make my car as authentic as feasable, I would like to find a data plate to mount in the engine compartment. Do reproductions exist or is it like counterfitting? I have a Hi Tech body on a CSX 4000 chassis clone and since it is quite authentic in appearance, I am trying to go the extra yard. All your help is really appreciated. I already saved a few hundred by not putting a spare in the trunk. John

They are readily available from Finish Line, Tony Branda, Cobra Restorers etc.

Yep, all the Cobra parts places sell them. There are two kinds- one with a Cobra snake emblem, and one without.

I don't see the harm in using the data plate, as long as you don't stamp a CSX number on it. I was going to do that with my KMP and stamp it "KMP357".

double,
You will need an "electric pencil", as they were called then, to mark the vin number , they were not die stamped on the COMP/SC AC MKII's.
also the tag should not have the snake head design.

Default Csx

I just purchased a data plate. Any problem with putting CSX 3XXX on it? I just want to make it Feel like an original. I bought a very accurate CSX clone with a Hi Tech body and want to make it as accurate as possible. I was thinking of painting it Rangoon red but am struggling with base coat/ clear coat vs original paint and putting a white stripe on it. Any suggestions are really appreciated.

I was under the impression that the S/C models has the coiled snake in the I.D. tag. Am I wrong?

LMH,
The "coiled snake" tag was later in the AC MKIII series, and yes some of the questionable restorers "stamp the tags" and being applied to an original for more than a week it then becomes an original detail. LOL

Default Stripe vs no stripe

Any thoughts on having a stripe vs. not? Did any come with a stripe?
Thanks, John

I don't see a problem with stamping the plate with your actual VIN, or even with a VIN that's "similar" to a real Shelby (like CCX3090 or something). But to stamp a real Shelby VIN on a non-Shelby car, is not only fraudulent, but hurts the public view of the real cars by people thinking they are looking at the genuine article.

Believe me, I know EXACTLY where you are coming from. I wanted to title my FFR as CSX5132. My FFR serial was 5132, and since there was no CSX5132 nor would they ever reach that number in this lifetime with the 5000 series cars, I figured it was okay. But after being told "no" by the title companies, and chastised by fellow Cobra owners for wanting to do it, I came to my senses and realized what I was trying to do was wrong.

I absoultely WAS going to put a CSX data plate on my KMP, but I was going to stamp it with the KMP serial.

Just my 2 cents.
