The SC numbers are definitely off. While I don't have exact figures committed to memory, they're closer to 30 copies.

I don't have any books handy, however I think there were somewhere around 30 S/C cobras produced. This is just an estimate off the top of my head.

Thanks guys!
I thought the numbers weren't exactly right per model.

Another question; are the COB and COX cars the same as the CSX cars? SC configuration? 427 or 428?

The COB/COX cars were all 289 powered. They were configured as street cars, not S/C's.
The S/C's were actually left-over competition 427's that were part of a group of 50 cars that were made to comply with FIA requirements of 100 cars. They never made it past 50 , and sold the remaining 31 comp cars as S/C's for street use.
Ned Scudder has COX 6111, a wonderful left hand drive beauty that has to be the nicest combination of Cobra features there is. Powerful, light weight 289, coil spring suspension of the 427 without all that weight and fairly useless power (for the street, anyway)

Oops! Except COX 6126, which was designed for a 289, but sold and shipped to the US without an engine. The owner had Holman Moody install one of their awesome 427 engines. The original owner still has the car and recently completed a restoration at the Holman Moddy shop, where I was lucky enough to see and photograph it prior to restoration. The only Cobra I've ever seen with a tan vinyl seats! (Among other unique features, like a louvered hood.)

I also believe that the COB/COX cars had wire wheels and had the 427 narrow rear hip fenders.

The COB/COX cars should be referred to as 'AC 289 Sports'. They were never called Cobras (sorry Ned)

Actually...breaking news!

The grand total should be, now...998.

The 5 Paramount cars have been de-recognized as original Cobras.

For clarification, COX/COB cars were produced in both leaf spring cars as well as coil spring cars.

COX/COB leaf spring cars used 60xx for their serial numbers and COX/COB coil spring cars used 61xx for their numbers. (with a couple odd exceptions )

Were the 3 chassis only, the EFX serial number cars that some company built into battery powered vehicles?

Shouldn't the 3 chassis only cars be just as de-recognized as the Paramount cars?

I don't believe the EFX frames were ever in the count.

So did the COB/COX cars use a combo body, with parts from both the 427 and 289 model? Or were they different all together.

The leaf spring cars used 289 style bodies and the coil spring cars used 427 narrow-hip style bodies.

COB were RHD and COX were LHD.

Nice and concise. Ok, two more questions, can you list how many of each of the above cars are accounted for (still exist)? Also, of the 260 street cars, any guesses how many were 427's, and how many were 428's?

Thank You:

I believe that approximately 100 of the 260 street "427"s were actually 428's. Most of the production from CSX 3201 to CSX 3300 were 428 powered as well as a few of the early 3300 series. According to the latest Shelby registry, less than 24 of those cars retain their original 428 engines, perhaps as few as 12 of them, since the registry doesn't have data to answer the question one way or the other on 12 of those cars.

Only a few of those 100 cars are "missing in action".
