Default how do you tell if a 66 mustang coupe is a GT?

I recently purchased a 66 mustang coupe and was looking at the #'s and don't know if it is a GT. This may be a easy thing to tell but I am new to the old mustangs. Please let me know any information that will help. Thanks

GT cars will have either an A or K in fifth digit of vin. Note the C in this vin is representative of a 2 bbl 289. Also an A does not prove a GT on its own. Vintage Mustang Forum is a good place for generic Mustang questions. Hope this helps a little

firedawg, your data plate decodes as 65A-2 door hardtop standard bucket seats H-Sahara Beige, D9-Parchment vinyland Parchment Rosette vinyl with palomino interior, 05K-Oct.5th build date, 72-San Jose ordering district, 6-2.80:1 open rear ratio, 6- C4 auto trans.Does the car still retain its original Black and Yellow plates?

Sorry, not a GT. As already stated, any factory GT would either carry and "A" or "K" code in the 5th digit of the serial number.
