differences between FIA and USRRC comp cars?
Hello
Which where the differences between FIA and USRRC comp cars?
As I'm driving my car at some national & international Hill-climbing races, I would really appreciate to have it looking like the original cars. I know it will be impossible to be 100% accurate, as it is NOT an original, but I can tray to be very close to it! And at the end it will be still my car, whit my personal look, but I would like to the right changes on it! In addition I'm in a lucky position, as there are coming a lot of winters, here in Switzerland, and therefore it could be done in smaller steps.
1.) Race seat
2.) Weber carburettor and some changes under the hood
3.) Fuel splash shield
4.) .....
To do this I would really appreciate, if you could help me with some picture and information. As my car has a street-style dashboard and no FIA trunk, it would make sense to step into the USRRC direction.
Many thanks for your help and wish you all the best for 2007!
ALF

Here are some pictures of what I think is a USSRC and/or LeMans model. Maybe others can shed some light.

jamo
the photos are actually of a "lemans replica". the "ussrc" & "FIA" cars were built as cut back door cars.

Looking thru my notes...the distinction between FIA and USRRC cars.. - FIA cars had trunk bumps; USRRC did not.
- USRRC ran with no grilles and full windshield
There were really two flavors of comp cars, besides the FIA configuration: USRRC and SCCA... the respective rules of each determined the config....but they were both comp configurations.

'Werks is correct...in addition to the USRRC car having the full windshield, the windshield was also "laid back" for less wind resistance. That was called Improved Aerodynamics back in the day!

Yessir...you may be right. I just pulled out some books and checked the FIA rules in 63 - 64, FULL Windscreens were required. My bad.
I do believe though that I have seen USRRC cars in both configurations. Will check some more.

I just checked where I got that note....
SAAC Cobra Guide 1987...
Quote:
"...SCCA cars ran with grilles and without full windshields; USRRC cars ran just the opposite."
|
Regardless, the sanction rules are what dictated the config...not Shelby.
Some of these older books do have boo-boos.

csx700?
It is a cutback door car. While it may not be a USSRC or FIA...it is not a replica. Am I missing something...folks making LeMans replicas out of original cutback cars?
JohnnyMac...tis a lovely thing, that.

Jamo, look close at the first pic you posted, it's not a cutback door car.
Other than that, I am not sure what car that is. Definitely a Lemans body, since it has the short reversed trunk to clear the Lemans hardtop.
I do know that there are quite a few original small block cars that have been redone with other body styles.

just antique semantics...
SA made two cars for the first entry into Lemans...and called them "LeMans" cars.
Then, made three more just like them, after the fact, and called them "LeMans Replicas"

There were six LeMans Replicas. The first three were CSX2136, CSX2137, CSX2138. The next three were CSX2154, CSX2155, CSX2156.

This thread starts to be interesting and there are more replays as I’ve expected within 24h!
PLEASE CORRECT ME, if I’m wrong!
The FIA, USRRC, LeMans and the SAAC Cars where all built with cutback doors?
Only the FIA’s had the dimples on the truck (needed to pass the trunk-size regulation)?
Oil-cooler shroud where on all cars?
I started this thread, to find some information, what I should add or change on the look of my car.
Like the engine compartment from this:
Closely to this:
And the outside look from this:
To??????
