Differences in Lucas Wiper Motors

Ok... This is for all the guys out there who have the insatiable need to sweat the small stuff like I tend to do.

The original Shelby Cobra used a Lucas 75311 DR3 with a 120 degree gear, or so I am told. This is a two speed motor, 6-wire motor. The cheapest I can find is about $200 + a $200 core charge...

As I understand things, an alternative is to use an MG/Triumph Lucas motor and that the drive gear can may need to be changed or modified (as elegantly described in the ERA manual). I realize that these could be DR2 motors that are single speed and therefore 3-wire but visually pretty much the same as a DR3.

That being said what is the significance of the '75311' portion of the part number and what does it practically mean? Drive gear and/or degrees?

The reason I ask is that Land Rovers use a DR3 75664J and are reasonably priced and I would not need the all elusive core. I understand it may need a drive gear change or modification but it is two speed and would be visual and functionally corect...

I know to some this might be splitting hairs but I know to others out there that this stuff is... well... important.

The digits of Lucas part numbers hold no significance.

I see that the electrical specs on the AC (Malta) Mk V show a 75664 wiper motor...so that should be encouraging.

The only thing I have personally seen as variations on the versions of the DR3 is that some part numbers have a connector on the motor body...and others (the Cobra-correct ones) have the short pigtail wiring harness as part of the motor.

I agree the 75664(J) is a good lead.

I found this through Rovers North in New Hampshire. They run $235 with no need for an exchange. I am going to drop them a line about pigtails...

Does anyone else have any DR3 input?

2138 ran a DR3A wiper motor which is a one speed motor. This was done since a simple on/off switch was used for the wipers on the car (it was one of the switches on the plate with 7 radium tipped switches). I am therefore running a DR3A on my car.

I have a DR3 75462D and it only has three wires in the pigtail. The DR3A I have also only has the 3 connections but they are spades on the end (no pigtail). I'm assuming the three wire is only 1 speed.

Lucas DR3 two speed wiper motors:
I recently bought on e-bay a Lucas DR3 two speed (six wire) wiper motor. The wiper motor was a "new old stock" complete with original box (in good condition) and the original instructions in the box. Luckily there was no requirement for a core.

Now here is the interesting news.
The instructions indicate the following part numbers to be all in the same DR3 two speed "family":

75305
75308
75309 (the one I bought, DR3 , dated 10/58, P/N 75309B)
75310
75311 (the one used on 427 Cobras per the Lucas parts list for Cobras)
75313
75319
75325

Now, the Cobra "factory handbook", the little beige colored cover driver's manual, calls the wiper motor out as a DR3 Model 073152.

Both use the PRS5 or PRS7 rotary switch on the dash (PRS7 is Lucas P/N 34374B or the updated P/N 31957).

I have another Lucas Spare Parts catalogue at home and will check the P/N sequences there later.

The six wire colors are orange, brown, red, white, green and blue. I'm going to wire it up to my PRS7 switch as the Cobra factory handbook indicates.

Nice work guys, I opted for the cheaper 2-spd Lucas Triumph GT version. Does look different however $25 tested and working. Hey, do I need wipers using a comp screen?
