Default Need Help with Ford Part numbers

I would appreciate one of you Ford part experts help on a 1963 Starter question. The nose of what I believe to be my original starter has the part number C3OF..... But the body of the starter motor has Autolite 12V, and the part number begins with DOAF.... Thinking that the starter motor housing was of 1970 vintage, I sought a "numbers correct" starter on Ebay. Having found and purchased a 1963 Ford starter off a Comet, I was dismayed to find....yep, the nose was C3OF, and the starter motor was Autolite 12V, DOAF....

Did Murphy get me once again, or are the starter motor numbers correct on both casings for a 63? With what I have learned about Ford part numbers, it would suggest that, even though probability would be against it, that the EBay starter has the same number discrepancy as mine.

Your help would be most appreciated, and thanks in advance! Bob

Both have been rebuilt. A "D0" is certainly 1970, hence no way oe on a 1963. I looked outside on my spares shelf and my 1966 car has a starter with a c5 nose cone and a c3 motor. Sorry! Keep looking. I might suggest striking up a friendship with a local parts guy and go thru his stock because that is where I found my spare starter for my car. Buy it for $24.95/15.00 core, repaint and put on the correct color stamps and you have saved probably $2-300 over the restoration electrical shops.

427Sharp,

Thank you for taking the time to verify my thought. Of course, druel began running down the corner of my mouth, when YOU mentioned you had a spare starter whose motor is C3. Are you married to it, or would you consider swaping me a professionally rebuilt DOAF motor for your core? It would go to a VERY good cause...

Like they say, it never hurts to ask....politely!

Thanks, 427!

Bob
