Default 289 Motor Mounts

Anyone know what they were from? They have two vertical bolts with a clearance hole between them. 289 Stang?

Long ago I looked into this and purchased a pair which were from a 63-64 Galaxie. My boxes only have the numbers 2220 & 2221. I do not have the Ford designation.

Take that for what it is worth because I have not mated the motor to the frame nor can I find the source of the part # ... I could be wrong

Thanks guys. I'm seeing the same thing on motor end. Frame end has two bolts up and down instead of the stud in the middle. I wonder if they were through bolting the rubbers or some other hot rodder modification. Let me see if I can attach an image [IMG]http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=61925&ppuser=10964[IMG]

Thanks John, see how they used the two small holes to bolt it in. The center one just looks like a clearance hole. So just drill and tap two holes in the bottom plate and cut the stud short?

Looking at the mount I have may be too narrow for a upper and lower bolt...

Don't some of the 427 guys cross bolt their motor mounts due to excessive vibration... it can be done safely, right?

Default 289 mounts

Hello, The 289 mounts are not like the hi po mustang mounts. The mounts have the C shaped piece that bolts to the block and under that it has a rectangle shaped piece of rubber that is approx. 2.5" thick and on the bottom of that is another piece of steel that has the two bolt hole to secure to the chassis motor mounts.

I will try to snap a photo later today and post here.

Later, karl

Karl's verbal discription is pretty close. The rubber block and the donut which connect the motor to the chasis mounts are still available. They are from a 289 Hi-Po engine setup and some of the mustang shops (like Unlimited) still stock them. The U shaped channel which attachs to the engine is much harder to find. They show up on e-bay every now and then. I have found them on 63-64 Hi-Po motor applications. Fran Kress also had some awhile back. Once in a great while McCluskey has some made.

Are these the rubber portions of the mount you are describing???

From the Unlimited Mustang site:

Fox,

Yes. The channel engine mount is sandwiched between the donunt and the lower solid block. The solid block then mounts to the chasis in at least 3 different ways that I know of. My Kirkham and all the other 289's have a welded platform on the 3" tube chasis that the block is secured to. Some of the ones I have bought on ebay have a platform that is designed to bolt to a square/rectangular chasis member (63 Falcon). The channel piece is the trick to find. Send me a pm and I'll email you some pics that I think I have.

Default 289 mounts

Hey John, Yes, that is the exact piece of rubber as on CSX2498. The two cut outs on the sides of the rectangle piece of rubber is where the two bolts & nuts go thru to attach the mount to the chassis.

Nick,
If it is any help, the mounts I have are set up for the dual bolt holes as shown on the original pedestals and carry the Fomoco P/N C30A-6038-A. On the Ace I have with the 289 in it, it has the same mounts and the 2 bolt holes are through holes and use a bolt and nut to attach the mount to the pedestal.

I went out to the shop and compared the mounts I have against the pics above and they look the same except on the ones I have, there are holes in the metal base plate to retain the bolts instead of just a notch where the bolts go. With the new versions, I guess since there is a notch on both sides it holds the mount in place OK?
