WTB Original style FE expansion tank
Howdy all,
My expansion tank has "tanked." I'm looking for an original style tank for my Kirkham. I recently aquired two that have the outlets on the wrong side (towards the passenger). I'm not looking for billit (aka Kirkham) or stainless (aka? southern). Just an ordinary tank (usually black, sometimes polished brass) with the outlets oriented to the left. Anyone got one for sale?
BTW, If someone wants a really nice one with a polished brass top (outlets to the right) I paid $150 + shipping, I'll give you a deal on it. The other one will be returned to Ed (Thudmaster).

Hens Teeth
They are hard to come by, I have one that has been repaired but once they leak it is very hard to get a good repair. I finally broke down and got a new stainless steel one from a Superformance Dealer. It wasn't cheap. Try some of the engine dealers on this site they may have a source. Keith Craft etc. I also remember that you could buy one in a kit form which allowed you to make it to fit your application. Do a seach on this site for threads on it.
Good Luck.

Have you tried the various Cobra restorers around the country such as Cobra Automotive, Olthoff, McCluskey, etc. They may say they don't have any in stock, because they're saving them for restoration customers.

Enzo at Finishline sells the kit and you have a local shop orient it the way you want. You can also convert your existing one and have the tank turned around for a drivers side outlet.

Mine is an original brass one and I turned it round so that the outlet was on the driver's side. It was easy. Alternatively, get a local rad repair company to do it for you.
It was my understanding that they were all the "wrong" way round originally and had to be turned for use in Cobras.

You might try ERA as they make an expansion tank that has the outlet on the driver`s side ... but it is not as tall as the original so as to allow it to fit under the hood. That`s what I have on the Ponds 482 in my ERA . All you have to do is powder coat it .

If you have trouble finding someone to turn yours around send it to me and I'll be glad to do it.

Nick,
Thanks for the offer. I'll see if I can find a radiator shop locally to give it a try on my rough one. If they do well, I may give them a shot at my nice one.
If it doesn't work out, I may take you up on the offer.
