I had thought that Dave Dralle manufactures/modifies a ford 9" diff housing as a drop in replacement for the dana44. May not be a bad way to go.

Diff Update
the diff has a few mods
It takes the dana and jag gears, and the back plate is dowled and has the main bearing housing built into the back plate.
all going together nicely so far,
Just trying to source some good outputshaft holders.
Will keep you posted when fitted in car.

I'm looking at making a set of side plates for mine. I'm not sure whether I want to make them Jag size bearings or the Cobra$ bearings.

The more I look at that case the more I am thinking it is sourced from Kirkham, maybe as a raw casting, and finished at another location. The visual cues are quite similar.
