It's a cute little burg by the sea, you won't have trouble talking your wife into going there.

If the hotels are a bit steep try around Mission Bay, lots of reasonable priced ones there, maybe 10 min. drive
And don't forget George's On the Cove, top floor (the one with umbrellas), great view
