Default August 19th, 2006 - ITN Road Rally

Greetings! my name is John Searight, and one of the Club Cobra board members asked me to post an invite for this event, so here it is...

On August 19th, the Into The Night Rallye Team will be hosting The Old Roads, a navigational rally that starts at the Cask-n-Cleaver restaurant in Fallbrook, CA at 2:00pm, and ends in El Cajon, CA at approx. 10pm. Beginner orientation starts at 10am. The entry fee is $25.

This event is a map-based, backroad oriented, timed event for beginners and experts alike.

Our website, which has more info, is:

www.itnrally.org

Feel free to contact me at my e-mail address:

landleft@sbcglobal.org

I know a number of the people on here are heading to Monterey for the 19th, but for those who aren't, we would love to have you join us for a fun run through some of the best back roads Southern California has to offer.

I'll post a list of items you will need/want to run this event soon.

Ask me questions here or at my e-mail address. And I look forward to seeing you in Fallbrook on the 19th.

- John

Here is that list I mentioned above.

Here's a list of things that I have when I do this.
Flashlight
highlighters and pens

clip board
snacks: redvines, beef jerky and powerbars (I like the ZONE ones)
cooler with soda and water
two different wieght jackets, never know what the weather will bring.
charged cell phone or two yes there will be a number to call just in case.
work gloves just in case you have to change a flat
A working spare tire or fix a flat.
lipbalm and sunscreen
compass (just in case/but you don't need one for the novice/beginner class)
sunglasses
gas cards and money
Headache medicine and Dramamine !!! for you and your co-pilot if so needed.
A Watch or two or three

a ruler
calculator
a sense of adventure
a willingness to drive, a lot! on some of SoCals best roads
Driver's License for the Driver and Navigator, Proof of BOTH Insurance and Registration.

if anyone participating is less than 18yo you will need to follow the instructions on this page - http://www.smscc.org/Minors.html

The ones in bold I consider essential. [I hope they came out in bold]

It's important to bring a watch where you can set the seconds manually. Please don't use a stopwatch, those are useless. Also, if you have never done anything like this before, please come to the orientation class on time and ask lots of questions. We will be there to answer them all and to make sure you have a great time at this.

I'll check back tomorrow night to answer questions any one has, and perhaps Paul G. will chime in by then as well.

Hmm.. About a dozen views, but no posts.

These are generally low key events that place an emphasis on map reading, navigation, and driving on some great roads. I had a lot of fun driving the check out for the course last weekend, and I drive a lowly Ford Taurus. Imagine how much fun it would be with a proper vehicle!!

Please - ask questions or make comments. I will answer all.

Default A message from our rallymaster...

Hello, everybody.
This is your midsummer ITN Rally Update. If you don’t wish to receive these notices, please reply with the word "cancel".
I just want to remind everyone that THE OLD ROADS will run a week from tomorrow, that’s on Saturday, August 19. Registration for Beginners and Novice will open at 9am and the rally orientation class will begin about 10am. Regulars and Experts may register beginning at 12 noon. First car out at 2:01pm. We anticipate all cars will be at the Finish by about 10pm, with awards announced by 11pm. Finish is at the TGIFridays in El Cajon.
Please send me an email response as soon as you can if you wish to run. We need to get an idea of how many entries to plan for.
Also, we need some more workers for this event, so if you don’t have a partner, or if you’re worried about expenses, please come out and help us work. Let me know right away if you think you can help.
To get to the Start, take I-15 to the CA 76 exit and go west. Or take I-5 to the CA 76 exit and go east. When you get to Mission Rd in Bonsall, go north (it’s a signal). The Cask N Cleaver is about 2 miles up on your left. Official Rally Mobile Phone on rally day will be 714 906 3525.
We hope to see you all there. The Searights have written a very exciting course that features some truly incredible roads, including some that even I had never seen before. We think you’ll enjoy it.
See you at Standoff.
Joe
