Sports Car drivers/race cars celebrated in fine at at Carmel Gallery Mid-August
"A Tribute to Fifties and Sixties sports/racing drivers" is the title of a modest display of several limited edition prints on canvas to be offered at Gallerie Amsterdam in the Monterey Peninsula village of Carmel-by-the-Sea in mid-August during what has become known as "Monterey Historic week."
The works are unusual in that they are the work of an admittedly "primitive" fine artist with no formal art training. The artist, Wallace Alfred Wyss, is normally a historian and authored several books on Ford, three so far in 2007.
Wyss reports that he "backed into the fine arts world by accident" when he created his first painting intended solely to decorate the table at a Beverly Hills book signing. Using a 99-cent set of watercolors, photoshop and a digital transfer to canvas process , he created a work entitled "Texas Tornado" (the nickname of a particularly hot sports car driver in '56 & '57) A Miami magazine publisher bought the painting right off the table so, seeing market for his art, Wyss began a series of new fine art works depicting the sports car drivers and sports cars of the 50's and '60s. This is his first gallery offering.
Gallerie Amsterdam also will be offering a Wyss print of Ford's 2002 Ford GT40, a Concept created by Ford about three years before the production '05 GTs came out.
Those who order a framed print will be presented their choice of autographed copy of Wyss' current race driver bio or the book Ford GT40 and the New Ford GT he co-authored with Al Axelrod and Brian Winer.
Gallerie Amsterdam is centrally located in Carmel on Delores between 5th and 6th. Their phone number is (831) 624 4355. Their website is
