After receiving graphic and verbal input from John Phillips, Bob
Gasse, Chris Moons and Jim McGovern, all of which ran the Bradford
track in Starke last Saturday, the decision has been made to cancel
the event at Starke for Reptile Roundup. This is a green track that
needs to mature before putting our cobra drivers on a highly
technical and demanding track that has little margin for driver
errors in several portions of the course. The club thinks it may not
be the best course for a new solo Cobra driver with limited track
time to learn the capabilities of his car, and if he decided to push
the envelope of his driving skills with such a small margin of error,
he could get into some serious trouble. As you know, most cobras
have a single roll bar and that precludes placing an instructor in
the right seat. The four guys above are great drivers and their
initial reaction to this track was one of respect for the low margin
of error. They drove with caution in the turns with concrete barriers
as the barriers are actually on the edge of the track with no runoff
areas. If you do go off track, you are immediately in limestone and
ping pong size rocks. We hope you will understand that we believe
this is the best decision for the good of the membership.
Arrangements have been made with the Gainesville International
Raceway (GIR) to hold our November 6 & 7 track event on their road
course. The Gainesville host hotel will be the Cabot Lodge. For
registrations, please call the hotel direct at 352-375-2400 and ask
for the DSCC rate of $88.
Unfortunately, the track will not refund our deposit, but will give
us credit for a future event. Please give us some time to figure out
credits as the Gainesville venue is a cheaper track to run. We wanted
to get this information out to those who have signed up and give you
notice for your planning. This email is only going out to those who
have signed up, a separate email to all the members will be sent by
the weekend. As post have been on pbcoffrog, this email is also being
posted there.
In closing, all other aspects of the 2008 Reptile Roundup will remain
unchanged. If you have any comments or need additional information,
please email: secretary@...
Best regards,
Larry
