'66 Side-oiler

This is the real deal folks. It's an absolutely beautiful '66 all original dual quad side oiler with '66 carbs.

Dual Holley 650 quads, 10.5:1 Venolia pistons w/ molly rings, Cobra Jet rods w/ 13/32 ARP bolts, balanced and blueprinted, True Roller timing chain, high volume modified oil system, Erson TQ20 cam and kit, stainless 3 angle valves, Mallory unilite, Moroso solid core wires, and Cobra Le Mans valve covers.

This engine was manufactured by Ford expressley for racing so it is not stamped with the usuall numbers like an installed engine would have been. The only identifiable casting is 66-427 in the valey and rear, which all 427's have, and 88 over 352 on the typical left front, all FE engines had 352 cast there. The heads are part #C4AE which are low rise big port hi-perf four barell 390-406-427-428 type with stainless valves, these heads combined with the custom made Venolia flat top pistons make for 10.5:1 compression which allows 90+ octane pump gas. The intake manifold is an original Ford 427 low rise piece part C3AE 9426-K. The crank is part # C3AE-U. It has been chamfered, micro polished and balanced. The connecting rods are the wide beam type used on all FE hi-perf four barell applications. They were later tagged as Cobra Jet rods. They have been modified with larger 13/32" 428 Cobra type ARP bolts and they are also balanced with new full float pins. The rotating assembly is internally balanced so any common (internal) flywheel, 352-390-406-427, will work stick or automatic. The carbs are a matched pair with all the lincage and fuel lines set ready to connect. The distributor is a Ford type converted to Mallory Unilite electronic with extended mechanical advance, the vac. advance is still operational, the plug wires are platinum solid core Moroso type. They had to be replaced once due to the engine rolling over inside the delivery truck (idiots) on it's way to me from Chicago.

I won this engine off of ebay for 7k from a shop in Chicago that has been building FE's since the 60's. What a steal. I thought I would hang on to this peice of history forever. I need to sell to help pay my tax bill and keep the family afloat.

The engine is a brand newly rebuilt motor with zero miles and only about 30 minutes of cam brake-in time on a stand. I've got about 8k in it right now so I'm willing to consider anything at, or above 8k. Highest offer takes it I know this is cheap but times are tough, and this baby deserves a good home inside somebody's cobra.

I'm tempted to wire the money tonight! Only one problem... it sounds too good to be true.
Why would the guys in Chicago offer it for 10K when SA sells the same for 13K (granted, it's missing the assessories)?
Heck, Brent might be in the market. He's already pissed off 8K on another engine, what's another 8. Probably has the same warranty as your other, eh? (kinding, don't punch a hole in the garage drywall

That's a good question. To be honest with you, I don't think Heartbreak is in business anymore. I can't get Al Seyler, the owner, to return my emails. That web page hasn't been update, as far as I can tell, in over a year.

When I got the engine from him, almost a year ago, he was shutting down or selling his Chicago shop and opening one in Vegas. He said he had sold two other side oilers in the last 6 months and was clearing out his inventory before he moved.

That might explain why his motors were discounted.

I am trying to find an AC Cobra in mint condition, probably a SPF. I may have to buy a new one, at which point I would lean to putting in the 427 SO.
I'm just trying to sort out several options at this time.

Here are some of the questions that I have been asked about this engine. They are really important so I thought I'd post them with the answers for everyone:

Has the block been bored? I don't know but I will confirm. The pistons are custom Venolia flat tops so it's very possible that there is a bore. I'll check the mechanics notes and post the results.

Are the heads iron? Yes, they are the original large port hi performance iron heads that came with the engine.

Is the block sleeved? No, the block is not sleeved

Has there been any porting? No. Neither the intake nor the heads have had any material removed at the ports.

Has it been welded? Yes. There is a small piece of the skirting near the pan that has been welded at some time in the past. It is in a non-stressed and non-structural area of the skirting. Looks like someone threw a rod at some point and it must have punched a piece of the skirting loose.

Has it been surfaced? The deck is standard height.

Is the block filled? No

Has the crank been ground? It is the original piece (see casting number above) and has been only chamferred and polished.
