I also believe that he has a perfectly good Ford 427 motor for sale. But $25,000 worth needs a little more and better prepared
info.
I really did not intend to take "cheap shots" (just little "cheap jabs" ) but He was the one who lumped me in with scobrac and called me a petty teenager. (wish I still was..)

I give him credit though.He jumped in with both feet and started swinging and he's still hangin' in there. He may make it yet.

thanks guys, there was a lot of misunderstanding going on in here, but you guys have really stepped up and made me feel a little more comfortable here. I will just have to ignore the flamers, there seems to be a lot of good and knowledgable professionals in here. I think I can add a little flavor here, think I'll stick around. again thanks.

I am sure that not everone is crazy about your oversized wheels, tan interior, or extra pin-stripes on the outsides of your LeMans stripes, but so what? You built or bought the car you wanted, and to the extent at what you could afford. Which is exactly what super-kit-car probably did.

I can understand, but might not agree with, how you have gone after his engine specifics and claims, but I think you should leave the guys pride and joy alone. There's a time and a place for talking smack like this, and it's not here. Try one of the ricer forums....those kids will love it.

cracker, if you look real close you will see that only one bolt holds heads on, and the intake doesn't fit, it is just sitting there. can't afford any accidents with this motor, so I put a bolt here or there to prevent any problems from occuring.

Glad I jumped in on this one, as the soon to be new owner of Classic I'm not going to take the bashing anymore. I am the first to admit, along with DV that Classic was probably the worst at keeping the customer happy. Constant backorders, delivery problems, old manual, etc. But the one thing that I always liked about the cars was the quality. The cars are different and the purist doesn't like them but so what! I do, and so do alot of other people. Same story about the Corvettes, heaven help the person that modifies a Corvette to suit his own taste. The purists hate it. Again, I like all Cobras. I saw some of the most beautiful cars in the world at the fling this year. Each car was built to suit the owners taste. Isn't that what this hobby is all about. Buying or building something YOU like! Can you imagine what a Cobra would look like if everyone had influence on the design. It would probably look like the 55 Nash station wagon I just bought. So I say step up to the plate and never be embarrassed by owning a Classic. I'm not!

Super-kit, good luck on the sale of your engine. I bet next time you post something for sale you will have all available information ready. You have some of the smartest guys in the world on this site and you better be prepared to defend what you say. I personally know nothing about the Nascar engines but with the prices the way they are on any 427 it doesn't surprise me. $25k sounds like a lot for an engine but the local circle track in town has late models running $30k small block Chevy engines every week.

From your picture, yes there is a MR intake sitting on HR heads, as I can see the gap between the valve cover and intake.

From what I've read about it, I think Ford offered over-the-counter crate Nascar motors, with High riser heads, and a single 4 BBL intake and carb. I have a single 4 bbl intake for a High Riser, C4-something, and the correct LeMans Holley, 3255-1, which is listed as the Hi-Riser race engine application from Holley's ID book. I think some original comp cobra's came with aluminum High Riser heads and a single 4 BBL intake/carb.

I want to say that the Nascar rods were cap-screw type, like the LeMans rods, only with wider bearings. So, if they are not cap screw, they may not be Nascar Rods.

It sounds like a great engine, but the price is too steep for most people. Good luck trying to sell it.

thanks anthony, I have just not had the time to mess with the motor, I want to take the pictures as I look for more numbers internally. Don, so glad someone stepped in, I love the Classic Roadster, the kit of my choice. I need to speak with you, will probably call you monday. I had figured out some shortcuts around the problems with building this kit, will share them with you. Al, New Jersey.

I will be a little more skeptical about your comments in the future. I am disappointed. I don't see you listed as having a cobra. Everyone has a right to their own opinin, but keep your uninformed comments about cobra makes to yourself. The Classic Roadster is a great cobra!!

First,let me apologize for offending any Classic owners, I wasn't implying as much about the cars as the yardstick. A Classic, in my opinion, falls short of several varieties of Cobras I have seen and for someone claiming an original 427SO I thought the yardstick would be different. I do not have a Cobra, that is why it's not listed, I do build Hot Rods and Custom cars and have wanted a Cobra since riding in a local one in 1969. I have looked at all types of kits since the Arntz and from my view I don't think the Classis is the Industry yardstick that he was claiming. My comments about them were made from my examination of the kits and my exposure to the company at Trade Shows. I'm glad those that have them are happy with them, that's what is important. After we finish a few of the Deuces we have for sale,we'll get a Cobra kit, which kind I'm unsure,but know it won't be a Classic. No offense meant,I'll probably have to have a Ford engine, no offense to those that want a Chevy or any other type, probably IRS, no offense to those that have solid axles. I didn't intend to offend anyone with my comments, but as a long time Ford guy, this guy seemed a little "grey".
By the way I won't buy any Classic rods either, or several others, so it wasn't personal.

take a hike bozzo, you know what you can do with the ten. doesn't matter what you think, have had this motor for a while and can wait for the right buyer. If no one buys it, I will just clean it and paint it and leave it on the stand, it's paid for and I am not hungry. I have several other engines to play with. who are you anyway, and what great contributions to society have you made ?

I'd use the Classic Roadster as the "yard stick" to compare the OTHER kits to, they been around a LONG time, theres a LOT of them out there. They ARE a major player in this game and WILL be here for a long time to come. Thats a fact!

Most of the "questionable" kit built Cobras I have seen have been less about the "kit" and more about the "builder". The end product can vary from Excellent to Awful.

As far as "kit quality" goes I would honestly rate the Classic Roadster among the best. But it really depends on what a guys priorities are. Myself? I just don't care for the "lines" on an FFR for instance, but it's a great kit! I like a "bigger" Cobra, but the West Coast Stallion is TO big (for me). Yet it offers some excellent benefits for those that want that (safety being one).

"Rollers" like SPF I don't consider "kits", so there not in the same league. Same for Kirkhams, it's a whole new ball game there.

Classic Roadster can be done with IRS and a 427 SO is an excellent choice for the car. That "kit" offers numerous benefits that appeal to me, the room/shelf behind the seats by the roll bar area being at the top of my list! The glass body is thicker than most others and I like that (theres a weight penalty, but you can't have it all)!

I really like my Excalibur as well (not a kit or a roller), but it is a "replica" of the Classic Roadster! The BIGGEST problem with C.R.'s has been the owners of the company, NOT the car itself! That is being resolved with Don Scott takeing over the helm!

You want to get "closer" to original specs? Get an ERA, but bring some serious MONEY with you! You want handling? Get a JBL, but they are 96" wheel base, so you gotta like a big Cobra. Into Chevys? Consider a Hunter! B and B looks interesting, but I prefer all Ford (or Viper V-10) stuff in mine.

Knowing this club pretty well I think I can say,most of us reading this thread are trying hard to give you the benefit of the doubt,....even though you constantly contradict your self , have not yet given us one part # that would suggest this is a NASCAR engine ,..........and generally are stepping all over your own meat.

I gotta say most of your injuries are self inflicted,.remember..... you are the newbie......so tread a little lighter ....and hold the name calling.....the guy you insult may well have been your best prospect.........most of the guys here are giving you a break .....whether you know it or not

you too need to do a little more reading, I posted part numbers two days ago, and uploaded phjoto's once the server was repaired. Quote "yes it is a nascar motor, I confirmed with the original owner yesterday. he is trying to find his original reciept. I posted some of the part #s, here they are again. on the block right side front inverted 87 352, on piston sidewall front right 12 DIP, inside oil gallery 427 26, on rear of block P 66-427, pistons C5AE-6110-AU, heads C4AE 0D10 6090F , other head C4AE 130 6090F, intake valves C8AX-6507-A, exhaust C8AX-6505-A. the short block came assymblied and I don't want to touch it. will see if I can get #s off the rods without taking the bottom end apart. the intake must be a marine tunnel wedge, but was for medium riser heads." what more do you want, as far as I am concerned at this point they can remove the thread. don't have to prove anything to anyone in here I know what I have and the motor can sit another ten years. as far as any potential buyer being in here, doesn't matter to me, if they wanted it they could have stepped up a long time ago, don't care. for the record consider the motor sold, I have had enough of this and will not tolerate it any longer, next time you guys who want to find fault, look in the mirror and start there. this is my LAST POST, have had enough of this madness, believe what you will.

The 0D10 on the one head resembles the casting date,which would be April 10,1970. The # on the other head "130", is not a complete date code if that's what it is. The head casting #'s are only the C4AE-6090-F, the other #'s refer to casting dates etc. The casting date should also be on the block. A 1970 date would indicate a service part. An easy indicater of a service block is the vertical ribbing on the side,which weren't on the early ones. Just trying to get the info straight.
