The nascar rods should have C7OE A on the beam,and they are capscrew .C9AE-6303-A should be on the crank somewhere (maybe not the middle code because all cranks use the same middle code and sometimes only the prefix and suffix are present). The rod journals should be 1.832"-1.838" wide.

I listed my Contemporary for awhile on CobraCountry, but decided to pull it until better times. Curt Scott embellished my ad text by characterizing my FE centeroiler as a "NASCAR" motor; I had to explain to several callers that while it's been a great motor, NASCAR it ain't, and wasn't. I'm sure he meant well.

This thread took a bad turn quickly, but the silver lining was that a lot of good info on FE / NASCAR specs came out of it, so the thread was monitored, but left open.

Now...
1. The originator has proved he has the item, and provided all requested part numbers and pictures, and survived the gauntlet, to his credit.

2. the chorus has chimed in with enough dissonance.

What's left is a Parts for Sale Post, with not only the specifics from the seller, but explanatory notes from others.

...I sense a kinder, gentler thread, from now on.

Some of the responses to this thread are just dumbass wise guy responses. Totally unnecessary.

The NASCAR 427 Sideoiler was "the" race motor. Its different than a standard sideoiler in that its block has a higher nickel content, has a NASCAR crank with wider journals and NASCAR rods. Its superior in strength and oiling than a standard 427 SO.

Sounds like the guy is selling the REAL deal. If you don't like the price thats another thing.

hey,,lets me sure,,someone shoot him a 25 k cashiers check,,lets see,,lol
the guy may have a nascar block,,or maybe a drag racer block,or maybe a service block ,I dont think they really classified them as such,and ported heads,most of the nascar 427s in the early to mid 60's were factory teams,prepared by Holman Moody,,I happen to know they used out of the box heads ford was busy developing ,lo rise,high rise,med rise,than tunnel port,
I lean toward this being a scam from someone who has read a bit,either wya,although I missed the casting numbers,,this cant be a correct restoration block for any thing,so a person would be more than silly not to buy a shelby,dove or genesis for less money.
I know all you know this,,but I just had to vent,,Tk

Since it is a "never assymblied" 427 NASCAR motor, there shouldn't be much to taking it apart.

never assymbled means just that. most parts are still in boxes. the most critical information needed was the numbers on the rods. I did not want to take the engine apart to get those numbers. the engine is exactly the way it came from Mayfair Ford, New Jersey in 1966. with much difficulty I was able to get the numbers with the use of mirrors. they are posted far above if you wish to read them. pictures of the motor are in my gallery. It would be nice to read and look before you make assumptions. In my opinion this engine is worth more in it's virgin state, I don't think there is another engine like this available anywhere. sure you can buy shelby's new motor for $ 26,000. but it's not the same. it is the same difference as comparing an original 289 shelby cobra to a new 347 stroker replica\kit cobra, yes the newer cobra is better in many ways, but just not the same. if it's rare, it's worth more money. I have had the engine for a while now, no rush to sell it. I have other toys to play with. my next build will be a 700 cu. in. Pro Street Cobra. the engine should put out about 1500 HP. I still am trying to figure out where I am going to get the nerve to drive it. I want the car to run 7 flat in street trim. there are some street (barely) cars in my area that run those numbers. the word is out in my area that when the car is finished to bring me any chevy you drive on the street.

I don't post often,I read a lot,but I just spent the better part of an hour reading this entire thread,and at this point,see no proof from either side- it's just a 427,seems to be made up of ordered parts,not an assembled,documentable item-- but a 427 at that.
just think of how many 427's are made up of different parts over their lifespans,using whatever parts were available at the time.
I doubt there are few,if any,originals running in cars now.
It's only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it-- $25k is a lot of money for parts----old,real parts,but just parts.
I'm rather sad as as to how newbie was treated, everyone could have been more helpful and not taking it for granted he was trying to scam some one.

I have most part numbers listed above. it is not just some old parts, it's a complete virgin engine never assymbled, just the way it came in 66. I know for sure that it is not a standard 427\425hp engine. at the time the engine was bought, his brother had a 63 1/2 Galaxy 427\425. this engine was the best 427you could buy at that time. it was an upgrade from the 427\425 engine. I would put this engine in a era correct cobra if I decide to use it. I do a lot of street racing and the engine at best will only handle about 800 hp. I need at least 1200 hp, so it won't serve my need but I am sure someone is looking for a engine like this so I will wait until they cross my path or I might just clean it and paint it and put it in my museum.

I think the benefit of the doubt is in order for super_kit_car at least. Evidence suggests it is indeed what he says it is, and there is little or no evidence to say otherwise.

I think it's a very cool piece of history myself.

,,,,,you need "at least" 1200 h.p.??? Dam! LOL, 400 will do it for me thanks!
