Ford FE 427 Stroker 650HP

Fresh 427 stroker making 650 horsepower. This is not an “estimate” as some people claim. This engine in my 3000-pound car went 130 mph in the quarter with a power robbing C6 transmission at 10.26 seconds. 458 Cubic Inches. This .047” overbore engine was run for 30 passes before I pulled the engine to “freshen it up” with new bearings. I instead completely disassembled the engine and had everything checked by my trusted friend and Machinist Butch Smith of Smith’s Automotive Machine Shop who builds mega dollar engines for Stock Cars, Modifieds and Sprint cars.

The Block is a Late 1963 Center oiler with the “square” Clover Leaf cylinder walls meaning that the block will support a large overbore. There is still a lot of material left for future builds. This 427 has never been blown up, sleeved or damaged. My father purchased this engine in the early 80’s and it sat in the garage for about 15 years until I built it into what it is now. It originally came out of a 1964 R code Galaxie.

The block was decked to square it up and the mains were align bored with ARP main bolts. New cam bearings were installed as well, typical machine shop prepping. The deck height is at -.010” and true.

On the front of the block is stamped 425 HP. The date code is 3J12 and the part number on the side of the block is C4AE 6015 with a D scribed on the back of the block

Pistons are Wiseco Custom domed slugs with valve relief’s to accept any size FE valve combination. Total Seal file fit rings are also installed as well as Eagle H beam rods making a little over 13 to 1 compression, NOT for pump gas!!

Crank is a 3.981” stroke 428 unit with a 1U part number and was .010/.010 when I removed it from the engine recently but I had it re-ground to .020/.020 as well as polished, chamfered and magnafluxed. This crank is professionally internally balanced. Matching C6 Automatic flywheel goes with it as well as the block plate and a Fluid dampner. New Federal Mogul Performance Main and Rod bearings are installed with 0.0029" clearance on the main journals and 0.0033" clearance on the rod journals.

Competition Cams SOLID Flat Tappet Cam; here are the specs

Good with 5000 Stall in light car. Excellent Power.

RPM Operation range 4800 to 7500

276°/286° @ .050

.642"/.668" with 108° lobe center.

Valve setting .028” intake and .030” exhaust

Camshaft part number 33-650-5 and 314B-8 Grind Number Lifters, Springs, Retainers etc…. are all matching components for this cam including Comp Cams Spring cups to prevent damage to the Aluminum heads.

DOVE Canadian Cobra Jet aluminum heads with Manley Severe duty valves at 2.15” intake and 1.72” exhaust. Heads are professionally ported and VERY nice!! Port matched DOVE single plain intake manifold with ARP fasteners. Smith Brothers custom pushrods. Complete DOVE roller rocker setup with studs, stands, spacers, hardened shafts and end stands. Head studs are installed in the block for a true torque. Heads are torqued at 85lbf-ft on the center six studs and 80lbf-ft on the Four end studs with Ford Motorsport A427 head gaskets .041” compressed thickness.

NOTE: I would like to keep the Custom valve covers inscribed “PHANTASEA” so I’ll include a set of Chrome valve covers for shipping purposes. I can also attach a stock Car pan for shipping purposes ONLY!! DO NOT USE A STOCK PAN with this engine unless you wish to throw away a lot of money!!

Cloyes True Roller Timing Chain enclosed with a polished Timing chain cover. The fuel pump is blocked off but the fuel pump eccentric is attached incase one wishes to use a manual fuel pump.

This combination ran a 10.26 @ 130mph in my 3000# car with a C6 tranny, 4.30 gears, DOVE Single plane manifold, Holley 950hp carb and 31” tires while I crossed the line at a meager 6800 rpm’s. This engine is built for more rpm’s but I never had the need to take it that high and never changed gears to see how much faster it would or could go.

Miscellaneous Items: Precision Oil Pumps HV/HP oil pump, Heavy-duty Stainless Steel oil pump shaft, Large port oil filter housing, single groove crank pulley, New in the box Edelbrock Aluminum water pump and a moroso electric water pump drive. MSD Pro billet Distributor with the light springs and maximum advance already set up. MSD plug wires, Autolite Racing plugs. All you need to do is install your oil pan, preferably a Nice DRAG oil pan and pickup and it’s ready to fire. This is a turnkey setup including the matching 950HP carb jetted and ready to run as is!!

This would make someone a nice bracket engine or a very radical street engine. A great engine for your Cobra Kit car, just install thicker head gaskets to reduce the compression.

I have a few additional pictures if needed. Message me and I can e-mail them to you.

If you are interested in a Turn-key drag car I can be persuaded to sale my racecar with this engine installed. Message me if interested.

I would prefer that the buyer pick this engine up at my shop, mainly so you can see in person what you have purchased and incase you need any additional items. However if you require freight shipping, please contact Forward Air at 1-800-726-6654 or www.forwardair.com for freight quotes from the terminal in Louisville Kentucky for an approximate weight of a 600# Crate. NOTE: I have a few quotes from Forward Air ranging from $183 to $215 to a few locations in the mid west and near the west coast. I recently shipped a 428CJ engine to a customer in Minnesota and freight was only $130. Insurance is One dollar for every $100 of declared value. I have already built a crate if needed and a crating fee of $25 in materials will apply. If Forward Air is used the buyer will need to pick up this crate at the nearest terminal to your location. Call 1-800-726-6654 or visit www.forwardair.com for terminal locations and quotes. The location of my engine is zip 40342. ........................
