Thumbs up 428 with GT heads and dual quad

Ok... Long story but the 428 in my car, photo's in my gallery really is a 428. I had it listed as a 428 and a "reliable" source insisted ford 428's were all C8ME's not C8ME-A's and it was actually a 390. It's not. That's the good news. The bad news is the guy that bought it wants a 390... Go figure. In any case It's Back...

In any case it has to go to make way for my 427. It is the engine in my car (well half way, we pulled a head to verify the bore) it runs exceptionally well. It has a few quirks and will need some attention in the long run. Essentially the car sat from 1996-2001 after having been rebuilt by Bennett Automotive in Hayward, CA. It has less than 3k miles on it. But after sitting so long It likely needs valve seals as it gives a small puff of smoke (sometimes) out the right side after it has been running and is shut off briefly and restarted.

I ran compression a month or so ago and it was 170-185 across the board except for #2 which was 155# cold. We added a few squirts of oil and it went to 185#. Since we have removed a head I can tell you the bore is about 4.15" or .020 the standard 428 bore of 4.13. It has forged pistons and a double roller timing chain. and shows no sign of wear on the valve train, no crud, metal shavings or debris of any type in the pan or anywhere I can see.

I am selling it as a COMPLETE LONG BLOCK with flywheel and harmonic balancer. It will also come with an Offenhauser dual quad manifold, chrome valve covers, chrome oil pan, chrome water pump, aluminum timing cover. The MSD distributor, surge tank, Shelby valve covers and FOMOCO C3AE intake are not included.

The engine gets 75 psi of oil pressure cold, 60 hot at 2500 rpm and 45-55 at idle.

It has a double roller cam chain, loapy hydraulic cam (don't know which one) and runs well with no overheating problems or noise. It uses a quart every 1500 miles or so.

The engine is: C8ME-A date code 12D7 (4/12/1967) The heads are C8AE-H 428 (improved performance) (GT) heads.

It pulls very hard to 5600 rpm without hesitation, starts fast and runs well.

I also have tons of FE spares, 428 heads with large valves, valve covers, intake manifolds, Mallory sprint magneto, mallory dual point distributor, Cobra 8V oval air cleaner assembly. C5AE dual point distributor, standard distributor and small parts.

$1,900. or trade
