I have no attachment to the seller or the engine in question...However, the casting numbers posted are correct for a vintage HiPo 289. if I had the space for it, I would put in a bid or two.......Keep it for a future FIA build..........

I may be wrong here but I thought all Ford sb engines were black until '67 or so when the word came down from Mgmnt that they would henceforth be painted Ford "blue"? I know for sure my brothers 66 Mustang and my cousins '65 Fairlane coupe had black Hi-PO blocks.

I thought mid-year (actually left over 65 hipo's) were black, and the new (for 66) were all ford blue. I seem to recall this was the case for all 66 Shelby mustangs thru number 252? Or something like that.
All I know is that my regular 65's 2v 289 is light blue with a red timing chain cover. I think maybe it was out of a falcon heh. I know all the base 2v and 4v 289's were all blue in the mustangs. |
My brothers Mustang was an early '66(not Shelby)4v and my cousins Fairlane was an early '65 4v.
Like I said I don't know for sure. I know I was surprised when my brother bought his car, used in '67 to see the black block because a friend of mine had a late '66 Mustang coupe with a blue block--that's why I remembered my brothers being different--I was always a Chevy guy so rarely paid much real attention to Fords other than Shelbys. |
Black blocks until February of 1965, after that, blue or black until August of 1965, then all Blue painted blocks.............

I am a little leary about this engine. It may not be as original as thought. I also understand that no paperwork is available to go with the engine. Since I had to deal with NJ DMV before in getting an engine certified that came from out of state, could this become a nightmare. jim v. |

Motor and matching transmission, figure in the $5,000-$6,000 range. Mostly it's worth is to a Mustang/Shelby restorer looking for those "matching numbers"................... Jim, Since this is a "vintage" motor, there is no certification needed...What type of documentation were you expecting with an "all original" engine and transmission that was just yanked from it's original engine compartment????. Thanks for the info,as you said,most likely a restorer for a K-Code Mustang will end up with the motor and trans......Have a good friend that restores Mustangs,mostly 65/66's for a living,he picks up Hi-Po's and toploaders when he finds them for restoration projects,currently has 2 complete Hi-Po motors and a half dozen toploaders........ Guess it also depends on how bad you want an original Hi-Po motor as to what you are willing to pay............ David |
