What is the distance between the bottom of the adapter plate and the top of the filter stud boss? Also, can you tell me what the air filter inlet diameter is? I'm real happy with my Edelbrock 800 but putting a bigun on might be fun if i have the clearance.

Karl,

I think Dominators have a larger mounting pattern than standard Holleys. If the Edelbrock carb matches the std Holley pattern, the Dominator will not fit the manifold.

BTW, Hi... Good to see ya the other day. I got my 17" wheels and Toyo RA1 tires (they now fit under the fenders) now. Rebuilt the whole brake system, installed Hawk Blue compound brake pads along with braided stnls brake lines and now it stops on a dime. Transmission is down at Hughes for beef-up. Checked the other day and the A/C still works great. After the transmission is back in, I should be rollin up to see y'all on Saturdays. See ya soon again.

Karl,
by my reckoning the bigger carb will make no difference below about 6000 rpm on your 496 and may well actually hurt performance below that figure. Just a thought...

itBites and Myles, thanks for the input. I knew the Dominator has a bigger base but King Cobra mentioned an adapter plate that I thought might work. Was just wondering if it would fit under my hood. Myles, your thought about the bottom end is probably absolutely right. I used the CFM calculation to determine if the Edelbrock 800 would be sufficient and found it to be very adequate. Just thinking that maybe I could use a bit more mixture, although I don't crank it beyond 6400 RPMs. I like driving more than wrenching so I try to keep the internal stuff inside where it belongs. Bulletproof so far. Knock on wood! ItBites, good to see you too. We were just talking that we hadn't seen you for a while, and up you walk. Thanks,

Yes it does come with the adapter plate from the dominator to a regular Holley square base .
The height is 5 1/2 inches from the bottom to the base where your air cleaner sits .
The Air cleaner diameter is 7 1/2
I am running this on a mild 460 and idles at 900 rpm runs the quarter in the low 11s in a 3800 lbs Cougar .
I can email you picks if you like I have a air cleaner 14 inch I could throw in but need re chrome .
I am redoing my engine and putting A/C and a electric choke .
Tony

Tony, thanks for the info. I'll do some measuring tonight to see if I'd have clearance. I'll let you know.
