Default Big Block Engine Builders in Detroit Michigan

I Am looking for an engine re-builder to assist with 428 Cobra Jet overhaul/rebuild back to 1969 stock for Shelby GT500. ANy recommendations on good engine builders, that do good work and are reasonable.

Try Jomar racing. I think they are in Rochester. They have a web site also.

Mark, LMS in WaterFord is a complete service center. They did the machine work on my Boss 351.

They do a good assortment of engines and are reasonable.

What are you looking to do? Do you want to do the assembly and have a machine shop perform selected tasks or are you looking for someone/place that will take delivery of an engine and return an engine?

I suppose it could be a nice winter project if you have a heated garage. Doing stock is farely easy, it's the performance stuff that takes time and effort.

Let me know what you're thinking, maybe I can help.

I can second Jomar Racing, Andy is a great guy, knows his stuff. Got my engine from him and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Guys, I realize this is an old thread, but I had a similar question to the original poster.

I've got a'67 Galaxie with a 390 that I'm hoping to either rebuild or to bore and rebuild. A few questions:

1. Are the machine shops recommended below strictly performance or would they work on a slight upgrade job such as mine? Also, do you have any further suggestions in the SE Michigan area?

2. What are my bore options for a 390 and would these parts be readily accessibly by a performance shop such as those that have been mentioned (Kinetic, Jomar)?

3. Any thoughts on how much either procedure would cost me? (Mind you, I've got the parts, just need the rebuild)

I realize I'm not in the same class as the Cobra owners here, but as a fellow big-block guy, I could use the advice.

Thanks in advance,
--Ian

Search the FE Talk forum. Then again, there is that FE website, but I can't remember...

30 over is fairly common, but it depends on a lot of things.
