Trigo or Vintage Wheels
Looking for a used set with adaptors.
Thanks, Ted |
Vintage wheels are dangerous. They are brittle and will break. Trigo wheels are ok if they fit your car and suit your needs. But if you want a nice wheel that comes in sizes from the basic 7.5 up to 14" wide you want PSE wheels. Phil Shcmidt will do any offset / backspacing you want. Trigo does exctly two, front and back.
Look up PSE in the LA phone book. You won't be sorry. |
If Vintage is selling a dangerous product, then how come they advertise here?
By definition, a Cobra is dangerous. It sounds like you are saying that Vintage is selling defective parts, or very low quality parts that can lead to dangerous situations. Is this true? Mike |
Maybe he meant old (vintage) chuck
|
Trigo has a great sale going on right now. Check them out at www.cobracountry.com
|
Vintage also has a great sale at this time. click on their banner-this page.
I posted a question re: their wheels ---see consumers watch--- & only received 1 response, so they can't be too bad. At least I hope not as I have a set to be delivered in the near future. Craig |
I can attest to the jewel-like quality of Phil'swheels. His shop in Torrancce is worth a visit (Jerry Goddard took me there, among tons of other cobra caterers). The wheels have just amazing quality and appearence. Phil is top-drawer, and a real artisan..

Does PSE have a web site?

Vintage wheels as in http://www.vintagewheelsus.com is selling wheels that are manufactured by the people that supply Superformance with wheels.
|
xlr: That's what I've heard as well. If that's the case, the SPF wheels (made by WAW) are very nice and I haven't heard anyone complaining about the rims. The only problem I have heard of is that the 1st few hundred SPF's that were fitted with WAW's (after they changed from the Trigo's) had CAST spinners. A few people complained of breaking them so they switched to FORGED. There was a recall for the cast spinners and they were replaced by Superformance.

Don't tell me this is another pharmaceutical recal! I have had a few surprises with this car over the past 18 years, and I am not interested in a wheel breaking. Has anyone actually observed one of these wheels (Vintage, Trigo, whatever?) breaking in street use?
Ted The reason I am looking for a used set is because I have put enough money in this ride. |
I have just bought a set of the Vintage Wheels. We have had a couple of shipping and packaging issues that Bob is working with me to resolve. The wheels are absolutely gorgeous. They are a very sound and magnificently finished casting. They are made by the same outfit in South Africa that produces BMW and MB wheels. The adapters are machined hub-centric for more strength and concentricity. If I ever see one of these things break I think I'll be in a lot more trouble than having wheel problems. Bob and Margot are great to work with and are selling highest quality new wheels for the price of used ones. I would highly recommend them and their product.

PLEASE!! Would someone (SCOBRAC) indicate what he meant by "vintage"??
Mike |
I've sent SCOBRAC a pm to have him clear this up.
I am fairly confident that he's referring to vintage 60's wheels... |
"Vintage" as in 60 s alloy wheels were prone to cracking, however with the improvement in casting techniques and materials in recent years a good quality alluminum wheel will bend on impact - not crack - just like a steel wheel.
Our wheels are manufactured in pressure fed permanent dies using the latest technology to ensure extremely high and consistent quality. Our Christmas special runs until the end of December ,for full details visit our web site www.vintagewheelsUS.com Merry Christmas to all members and thanks for your support. Doh... My bad...
Thanks for not flaming me. Of course Vintage is an advertiser here and a fine company by all accounts. They are an exceptional valve to boot. I am sorry for misunderstanding. I was clearly on a carb induced bender. I hear Vintage and hear vintage, ie period, 1960's stuff. The alloy used in 1960's wheels, whether it be magnesium or aluminum was brittle and never meant to be in service for an extended length of time. Using them today for anything but a coffee table is crazy. That said they are still available on e-bay, sometimes for as much as $2000 each. |

OK. Got it. I was wondering when someone from Vintage would chime in!! Mike |
Vintage and Trigo wheels
Can anyone tell me if Vintage wheels 4.5" PCD Five lug wheels fit on Trigo Five lug pin drives, in other words are the pins the same size?
I assume the 6 pin would be made to original specs so no problem there! |
