I have gotten so many inquiries to parts listed, and everytime someone wants to know more about them I end up getting poor old George to drop everything else he is doing so he can explain this stuff to me and others who are interested.

To save him some time and myself the grief, I wil share here everything I have on these parts.

Those who are NOT interested in them, please bear with me while I bring the entire Internet to a crawl.

First the
427 4V TUNNEL PORT INTAKE
This is NOS. The documentation I got with it when I bought it said the following.
"This is a Ford part . Not an after market number.C8AX-9424-B
Brand New in the box ( I must have the box here or got thrown out) 427 TP single intake manifold. VERY RARE. You may have seen dual quad Tunnel Port manifolds but not too many single 4V. This is real and to verify that, you can see the pictures . The “buddy Bar” casting on the underside. This carries the part number C8AX-9424-B
This has not been cut and welded or drilled with nitrous or modified in any way."

http://www.gessford.com/cobra/images...yBar-01610.JPG
http://www.gessford.com/cobra/images...yBar-01612.JPG

You could have bought this piece for $152.12 at one time.
http://automotivemileposts.com/autobrevity/ford427.html

It is my understanding ALL C8AX-9424-B intakes were stamped Buddy Bar. Page 62 of Pat Ganahl s FORD Performance book says the following. "A); or a single-plane, single four-barrel (C8AX-9424-B) manifold. This latter two manifolds are strictly swap meet items these days and are usually expensive ."

Vintage FORD Muscle Part Catalog says the following about this same Intake on page 65 "4V-The 427 tunnel port uses our biggest breathing 4-holer MANIFOLD C8AX-9424-B. Its single plane, lightweight aluminum design makes it ideal for high RPM performance. Port sizes blend from a nearly round 2.05 to a 2.20 diameter, providing more area than similarly dimensioned rectangular ports. Areas between runners have been cast solid to eliminate need for valley cover. This tunnel port setup uses the Holley 4-bbl-CARBURATOR C5AF-9510-BU rated at 780 cfm "

Joe,
I don't really need to trade for anything right now. I am trying to unload my stuff not swap them for something else.

Jeff,
I no longer have a tunnel wedge intake. Just a sidewinder.

Turk I'll give you $100 for the whole lot and I'll pay the shipping. If you want I'll throw in a cracked 428CJ block you can use to keep your boat from drifting.

Now the block.
427 SIDEOILER NOS BLOCK
Recently some idiot decided to malign the block I have for sale, and the person who mentioned that it was for sale, and most importantly the person in whose custody this block is . George Anderson.

Many know me, but most importantly they know the reputation and the integrity of George. As promised a few days earlier I will share with everyone the details George prepared for someone who was interested in this block. See for yourself if there is any attempt on my part or his part to sell ANYTHING under false pretences.
Someone named Kevin inquired about the block, and I referred him to George and George told him everything about the block.

The block is not like buying one on EBay-It is not sight unseen-. It is sitting in Nebraska at one of the most reputable builders in the country. I for one resent the implication this idiot casts, as if WE are trying to pull the wool over someone's eyes.

If I wanted to do that, I wouldn't be (neither would George) be telling the prospective buyers the following details. Instead I would sell it on EBay to an unsuspecting buyer. Not to friends!

Ernie, you will one day realize you are not fit to be part of any group, not gasholes not even a$$holes.

So, kindly take your petty grudge match to places that does not effect me, and do not smear me or people who are near and dear to me.
OK?
Here is George Anderson's account of what this block is or isn't. If ineterested please contact George.

Regarding the engine block, what year is it? Is it in fact an NOS piece?
What charges have been incurred for machine work? What type of pistons have been ordered and what is the cost?

George
The 427 Side Oiler date code is 2M2 or December 2nd 1972
http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/TurkNo3-DA15.JPG

This was the tag on the block
http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/TurkNo3-DA19.JPG

The block was new when we received it...had never been ran or been assembled.

Typical of 427 Side Oiler blocks of this vintage this one has two main caps marked 4
http://www.gessford.com/quotes/image...wo4Caps.01.JPG
http://www.gessford.com/quotes/image...wo4Caps-02.JPG
http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk4-1597.JPG

The block had one main cap bolt hole that the threads were fretted likely from the way the factory installed that main cap. The threads have been repaired and are back in specification.

http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk41603.JPG
The block (although very rare to find in new condition) had some typical surface rust in the bores....the SELLER to Turk did put some cosmoline looking compound in the bores but when cleaned you can see the slight surface rust.

http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk41616.JPG
#1 cylinder had more than the other bores and a flaw I didn't like but could correct..perhaps a small pin hole and was in the typical ring travel area....

http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk-3586.JPG
this I didn't feel was acceptable for Turk's engine build and we obtained Turk's permission to correct this...we may well have been able to bore the block to 4.275 to correct it but rather opted to sleeve this hole to preserve the bore at 4.240" (.007" over the stock bore).
We removed the stock main Bolts and replaced them all with ARP Main Studs

http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk-3540.JPG
The Rear Main cap was milled to our specification to allow for the use of a shorted ARP rear Stud that will allow the use of an Aviaid pan and Windage tray.

http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk-3537.JPG
Turk's block was then align bore checked
http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk-3572.JPG
http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk-3573.JPG
http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk-3575.JPG
The Stock Cross bolts were updated to ARP Bolts
http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk-3556.JPG
the Oiling Mods were completed.
http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk-3559.JPG

The sleeve for hole number one looked like this when we bored the block to install it and my hunch was correct that it needed this simple sleeve to correct it.
Bored for Sleeve
http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk-4811.JPG
Sleeve installed (we use Liquid Nitrogen)

http://www.gessford.com/quotes/images/Turk-4816.JPG
we then proceed to order the custom Arias Forged Piston for the 4.240" bore and this was my order detail sheet for 9.99 (10:1) pistons using 82CC Iron MR Heads.
http://www.gessford.com/quotes/image...9232003no3.jpg
and did the final boring on our Sunnen CK10 Boring Machine utilizing a Deck Plate.
The block was also square decked to 10.155" as we do on all 427 Iron Blocks.

This would make a great block for any project. The work has been completed professionally and in keeping with how we build our motors. Turk was fortunate to find the block even though it took many of the typical corrections we see in this vintage of block...yes even brand new ones....as I've yet to see one that didn't need some TLC.....
I do hope this gives you the DETAIL you need to make an informed decision on the block and pistons. It would make a great block for a Cobra project engine. We would certainly be very happy to build the motor for you and stand behind it.

My Best, George

Turk, maybe you could tell us what a Tunnel Port drives like, Many have said that its not a good street engine cause it needs to be in the upper RPM to run well. Some say that with a 2K lb Cobra it doesnt matter. Michael

Michael,
I never owned one. There is another thread somewhere here posted recently, that said it was no big deal to drive on the street , not unless that is all you are doing. We are not making local deliveries or running a cab service in our cars. 90% of our driving is on the highway.

Bill Malone had one in his Cobra for a few years, now he is stepping up to a SHOC Cammer. I guess you could say Tunnel Port engines are just trainers for the Cammers.

Michael, I will give you my two cents. I would say it depends on how your engine is built and what kind of driving you do.

Mine had (2) 750 Holleys on a single-plane intake. 3.54 rear and CR toploader. First on a CR is tall in comparison to a WR. The single-plane is supposed to be less drivable.

I did not find the car to be unstreetable. Mine needed to idle at 1100, which I found to be the best all-around setting to keep the plugs clean. It did not like to sit idling for any length of time.

I did not buy the car to be a daily driver--it was meant to run and Lord how it liked to run way out on the back roads of San Diego county.

I found the car to be quite drivable. It would drive up a 15 mile hill like Palms to Pines in 4th gear at 2500 all day long. Could loaf along without loading up the plugs. Could stay in 4th gear most of the time.

But, it was instantly responsive. No lag, no lull. Came on the cam about 3300 and ran well past 6500. Revved very freely. My cam was in the neighborhood of .580 lift. THis cam combined with the TL and rear combo generally always had me at around 3000--in my mind, that contributed to the drivability.

Mine was unstroked, and as I said it revved very freely. I have heard from others with tps, that more inches further aids drivability. Mike Braun built a big-inch tp and says it will idle all day long yet produces outrageous hp.

I liked my car; it was different. Not for everyone. Not a daily driver. Not the easiest car to drive. But, it was a good car and I think it is a good choice if your driving takes you on longer cruises with room to run. Stoplight to stoplight, there would be better choices.

Your cam choice, trans and rear combo have something to do with it too.

What Bmalone said is pretty accurate. I had one with the dual Hollys in a Galaxie, but it had a pretty radical cam and I could drive it in town as long as I kept the RPMs up to around 2300 if I recall. That was many years ago. I believe mine idled at around 1400/1500 RPM. Best I can remember my cam had a lift of about .625 and a 312 duration with around 90 degree overlap. Not a street cam. The cam came in around 3800 and I had 3:91 gears. But tame it down and it would have made an awsome motor for a Cobra.

I personally couldnt understand why it (tunnelport) wouldnt work for the street if you kept the cam under 600 lift. Who cares if it doesnt have the torque of a High Riser etc, The car only weighs 2K! Id rather have the midrange and hi end. Ive been in street rods that had so much torque that you were breaking the tires loose all the time. Now theres nothing more embarrasing than breaking them loose in front of a cop when you didnt mean to!! Good Luck Turk, Michael
