Parts for '69 351W for CA Smog

Here is a list of parts I used to pass my 69 351W motor at the CA BAR for smog purposes. YOUR REQUIREMENTS MAY BE DIFFERENT based on your specific engine/needs. For example, you need a CA compliant carb, non modified engine. The following items fit on my 2001 Superformance (car # 995):

Themostatic air cleaner with heat riser (getting it's heat from the headers) - Motorcraft air cleaner included. This has been customized to fit under the hood and my hood closes fine (it may not be the same under your hood!)

Motorcraft distributor with vacuum advance; comes with cap, rotor, and check valve.

Motorcraft Spark plug wire set long enough to go around TAC.
Oil Filler cap with breather.

Asking $350 + $50 shipping/packaging

Howard,

Just a question for my information. We had a man here with the same engine and he had to do the same stuff. Only he had to disconnect the vacuum advance on the distributor and disable it completely. As all people in this state know, things vary from one place to another. Also this BAR referee stuck a garish yellow sticker right on the face of the speedometer that the vehicle couldn't be operated above 60 MPH. Of course that blew off immediately. He first told the guy he had to get rid of the headers and put stock exhaust manifolds on, then for some unknown reason relented on that.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron,

The first time that I visited the referee, he gave me the following diagram to follow (the 302 diagram on the bottom):

My mechanic also did alot of research. We purchased the stuff I have posted for sale and put it on the vehicle. The referee checked it out thoroughly and passed me. After my SB-100, I took all that stuff off and am now offering it to someone else who may need it.

And I don't know why they would put a 60 mph limit sticker onl your friend's car???? Weird. I didn't get any stickers or warnings other than the SPCN sticker under the hood.

I thought a prior '74 or '76 block was exempt from smogging?? Damn I have alot to learn. I've been leaning toward an old block (e.g., '69 351W stroked to 392!) because chances of getting a SB100 are so slim!

iwantacobra427, all pre-1976 regular production cars are exempt. However, a replica cobra has to be registered by year of manufacture or when first entered into California. Therefore, my Superformance is registered as a 2004 specially constructed vehicle and has to be smogged every 2 years. However, it has to meet the block year requirements (1969). Unless you go with SB-100, you have to smog every 2 years in CA.

I bought and kept this stuff until I got my SB-100. Now I don't have to worry about this stuff, so I thought someone else may find it usefull.

If buying used, have you considered already buying a car that has been registered as SB-100? I have my Superformance up for sale in the "Cars for Sale" section of this board.
