427 Motors For Sale
I have a pair of 427's (1969) that I am looking at selling. They are out of a Chris Craft boat that ran in fresh water and only have 720 hours on them. 1 motor is counter-rotating so the cam and crankshaft would need to be changed. Both motors are currently running great. I am looking at repowering my boat with some different motors.

These are Ford 427's but from my understanding they are not side-oilers. I apologize but I don't know my motors very well. The boat is a 1971 model but the motors were made in 1969. The motors information plate just states 427 300hp. Is there something that I can do to provide you more information?

Pictures of the block would be best, particullarly the left (port) side.

I think alot of them were side oiler castings, but machined/drilled as center oilers/ hydraulic lifters. You can gun drill out the "side oiler" galleries on some of these (probably most), converting them, but some may have the engine mount pads machined too deep in the skirt, maiking it difficult/impossible to drill out the gallery. I think ford used the 427's in marine/industrial applications because of the cross bolt mains fo sustained higher rpm applications.
I almost bought two of them. After we agreed on a price, the seller decided to raise it by $1500, so I didn't go through with the deal. I was going to drill out the side oiler galleries. I want to say about $400 per block.

You are precisely correct in your thinking. I bought 2 of them and a friend of mine is building the second one. They are Side Oiler castings with the Screw in Plugs, Side Oiler galleys (undrilled), etc. but they are configured as Center Oilers, machine drilled for hydraulics. We see no reason to drill them out as Center Oilers and since KC is doing the build, I don't think he does either. They're good castings and we paid just over 3 grand for the 2 of them but one was freshly bored (ready for assembly) and included new custom pistons and the other included the rotating assembly at a standard bore. We didn't steal them but we feel we paid about what they were worth, components inclusive. Much more than that and you might as well spring for an after market block.

427 Motors For Sale
It sounds like from reading everyones feedback that I should keep these motors and have them rebuilt. I have priced a rebuild and its close to the price of new motors. The problem is that if I purchase new motors (ex. 454's) I am looking at the expense of buying new exhaust manifolds, transmissions, etc. which would be rather expensive.

Put in rebuilt 390 short blocks, keeping your heads, manifolds, cranks, as they are no good anyways to a car guy. You cold sell your 427 blocks and put the money towards rebuilt 390 short blocks. You may make a little less power, but I doubt you would notice a difference.

I guess that I'm going to keep them and have them re-built. I have been referred to a guy in Nebraska, people tell me that he is the man for 427's. First I have to find out what is the difference between automotive and marine 427's when it comes to the re-build. Thanks to everyone for the feedback.

That "Kool Aid" guy in Nebraska?
Gotta be George Anderson at Gessford machine. Neil will likely do the final assembly. Machine Shop of the YEAR award winner, yeah, I think they can handle it (under statement of the year award winner)!

Tiweldon,
Give me a call if you like I just had 2 427 (1 Center Oil and 1Sideoiler) built over the winter. The man in Nebraska is one of the best and a good friend, George Anderson. I will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
