Default Independent Rear Suspension For Sale

Hey there folks !!

I have the following for Sale out of my 2003 Mustang Cobra:

I'm converting to a Solid Axle for dragstrip purposes, so, I'm selling the Independent Rear Suspension Assembly.

This will be the complete assembly, the only thing not coming with it will be the brake calipers. I will include the stock springs with it, and I do have some coilovers available for a little bit extra money.

I was told by someone that the Cobra scene could possibly be interested in something like this, that's why I'm posting here.

I'm asking $900 for the whole setup, and $200 for the coilover setup.

Please Email me at Lamboot@yahoo.com for more information or interest. I'm not on this board a whole lot, so, I don't check the forums very often.

Thanks for your interest.

Mike,

Don't mean to be ignorant here, but what the heck is a Unique ?? "Unique" meaning one of a kind car, like a Cobra Kit ??

Make it fit. It's a great deal for a sub-400hp Cobra.

Why the 400 hp limitation?

I've heard of the Ford 8.8 IRS on cars with much more horsepower than that with no problems. What is your thoughts on this?
Just curious?- Bob

You are right, there are quite a lot of cars with MUCH more than 400 HP and no problems with the IRS. I know one guy here in St Louis that Dynos 560-HP and 720 ft/lbs-Torque with a 100-shot of Nitrous, and he is still running on the stock IRS. Still the stock half-shafts. Now, granted, he is running on borrowed time right now running the numbers he is doing, but, if you are not planning on running the car on the dragstrip and doing NHRA launches, then the stock IRS can handle quite a bit of power.

There is a plethora of information on other sites, rife with facts on Ford IRS rear ends vis-a-vis higher-hp engines. Many NHRA almost-stock classes prohibit IRS.

Brian,
That may be true, but keep in mind many of those cars don't weigh 2200 lbs dripping wet. That in itself makes a huge difference in how well drivetrain components hold up.
I've talked to several builders that run 800 hp torque monsters on the 8.8 IRS and have no problems.
I wouldn't want to use it for drop-the-clutch drag launches either, but I wouldn't have any problem with any other use for it short of that. Even occasional drag use shouldn't be a real problem- however if it is, harder axles can be had for around $300-400 to take care of that issue.
Just my humble opinion- not trying to step on any toes- Bob

While it may seem like it's getting away from original post these are good questions any likey buyer will need to address as far as a replica goes.

Will it fit? Of course it will! People put anything and everything in their replicas, just takes a little more engineering than a solid axle and IRS (in my opinion) is worth the extra work\money.

Takes time to sell something like this, I wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket on Club Cobra. Shop it around on the FFR sites as well as other places too.

Oh, I know, I realize that people need to ask questions about a product, etc..., and I apologize if I came across rude in saying that we got away from the original post. Wasn't intended to be mean or anything like that. I just didn't want the thread to turn into a thread talking about IRS's, and that's all it would be, information about IRS's.

I have no problem at all with people asking a million and one questions, I like it when people are informed. It makes for a much easier transaction.

Believe me, I've posted on quite a few boards !! Many Ford boards, as well as this one. I chose this board because the guy switching out my IRS to a Solid Axle said that he believed that different types of kit-cars could use a rear setup like this, and that some would prefer it.

Anyone else know where it would be advantageous for me to post at ?? Do you think I'm asking too much for it ?? It is in very good shape. Heck, I may even be willing to throw in the Coilovers for free to sweeten up the deal, you never know.

Thanks for the help and interest, and input as well !!

Chris.

ExCal,

If I believed it would fit in a Unique chasis, I could be possibly convinced. I jusy do not want to be a groundbreaker here. Surely it would go FFR in a heart beat, right? But it seems to me the Jag IRS with coil overs will be even more ecpensive..

eh eh,,, I didn't say it would be easy! I think the Mustang unit is also heavier than a Jag, but this price is hard to beat!
