It's the Ultimate Car Cover
Nextec encapsulation
Originally developed for outdoor performance wear, the Nextec® encapsulation process uses precision and controlled placement of proprietary polymers to make ordinary fabrics extraordinary! This patented encapsulation process places an ultra-thin film around the fabric fibers and precisely places a durable, breathable barrier within the woven polyester fabric to complete the high performance process. Unlike traditional coatings and laminations that just protect one side of the fabric, Nextec uses up to 40 computerized process controls to place protective polymers inside the fabric, to shed water, and stop dust, bird droppings, tree sap and industrial pollutants from reaching your vehicle's finish. The result is a fabric that provides maximum protection, but isn't bulky and hard to store. Using Nextec encapsulation technology we've created the ultimate car cover...and we named it WeatherShield ® because no other fabric has every shielded your car or truck from the elements like this one!

This magnified photo gives you an idea how the encapsulation coats the fibers and fills the voids between the threads with a breathable barrier to assure moisture, dust and pollutants are kept away from the vehicles finish. The base, high-strength, polyester fabric is naturally UV resistant, but we've added UV inhibitors to the polymers to help slow down the degradation that occurs naturally to anything exposed to sun for an extended period of time.
* Sheds Water - Encapsulation process assures fabric sheds water as soon as it hits the cover.
* Superior Dry Time - Because the fabric sheds moisture it has an absorption factor of only 2%, compared with up to 40% for standard woven and non-woven fabrics. That means, if the cover has been sitting out in the rain you only need to shake it and the residue moisture will easily dry, in the trunk or on the car.
* Breathable - Allows any heat or condensation under the cover to easily escape.
* UV Resistant - Special additives prevent UV degradation and protect the vehicles finish and interior.
* Dust-proof - Patented fiber encapsulation process prevents dust from filtering through the fabric.
* Scratch-less - Polymers provide a silky smooth finish to the fabric and provide superior paint protection. Nextec fabric has been tested at 1,000 cycles on abrasion wheels without scratching (surface must be clean and waxed).
* Durable - The encapsulation process is not affected by heat or cold and the process won't degrade over the life of the fabric.
* Easy Care - Unlike non-woven fabrics you can clean the WeatherShield® cover in your HOME washer and dryer.Weathershield rolls up small image
* Packs Small & Light - All this protection in a lightweight package that packs into ¼ to ½ the volume of multi-layer, non-woven fabrics. That's a cover for a Honda Accord he's holding - minimal storage space, but maximum protection!
Warranty: 4 years for Weathershield and Multi-Color Weathershield
Weathershield® Questions and Answers
Q - What makes WeatherShield® the "ultimate" all-weather vehicle cover fabric?
A - The patented Nextec® encapsulation finish process produces a fabric that is highly water resistant, dust-proof and still breathable. Originally developed for outdoor performance wear (parkas, pants, etc.), Nextec uses up to 40 computerized process controls to place high-performance silicone polymers inside the fabric. The polymers wrap themselves around each individual thread and fill the voids between the weave to form an impenetrable barrier against the elements. Take a sample piece of WeatherShield® and place it under a faucet. The fabric sheds water immediately, making it look like beads of mercury flowing off a surface!
Q - What other elements will WeatherShield® protect my vehicle against?
A - It’s a classic battle - you against the elements! WeatherShield® puts you on the winning side by protected both the interior and exterior of a vehicle against damage from sun (UV), pollutants, bird droppings, tree sap, salt air, acid rain and dust/dirt. Normal rain isn’t the enemy of a vehicles finish, the bulk of the damage occurs from things settling on the vehicles surface and then being baked into the paint finish by hot sun. Additionally, UV rays damage the pigments in paint and the dash and seats of the vehicles interior.
Q - How is WeatherShield® different from other car cover fabrics?
A - Because it’s a single layer weave, the fabric is compact for easier storage, and the fabric finish assures the material will only retain a fraction (up to 2%) of its weight in moisture, compared to popular multi-layer nonwoven materials which can absorb up to 40% of their weight during a rain storm. Either fabric type can be stored wet, but WeatherShield® takes just a quick shake before storage to remove any surface moisture.
Q - Is WeatherShield® fabric strong?
A - For state-of-the-art outdoor performance wear, Nextec® uses nylons, lycra, and now cotton, as base fabrics to finish with their patented encapsulation process. For covers, Covercraft® selected polyester as the base fabric. Polyester is very strong and naturally resistant to moisture and UV. The tight weave of the fabric results in a material that has high tensile strength in both the warp and weave (width and length) of the material.
Q - Is WeatherShield® fabric UV resistant?
A - In addition to polyester’s natural UV resistance, UV inhibitors are added to the encapsulation finish process. WeatherShield® covers carry a 4-year limited warranty against the cover becoming unserviceable during normal use. Covercraft® will repair or replace the cover after factory inspection.
Q - How protective is WeatherShield® for today’s water-based paints and clear-coat finishes?
A - Because Nextec’s encapsulation process uses silicone polymers, the fabric is slick and smooth on the underside. Most of today’s waxes and polishes use silicone polymers, and independent testing by Nextec® has shown WeatherShield® fabric to be less abrasive than even our tan flannel fabric! We always recommend using a cover on a clean car for Best results. Use of a "duster" prior to covering a car will add to the length of time between washing.
Q - How easy is care and maintenance of a WeatherShield® cover?
A - Because the fabric is so compact, it can be cleaned in a HOME washer and dryer. Using regular powder detergent (without bleach), the cover can be washed in cold or warm water. Covers should always be run through two rinse cycles to remove all the detergent. The cover can then be dried in most home dryers using the "Permanent Press" settings. The warmth of the dryer actually rejuvenates the Nextec® finish so the cover will perform like new. Most times, when a cover is "leaking", it is because of contamination and dirt on the surface of the fabric that allows moisture to migrate through the material.
