427 SC frame and body for sale
 

I have a CSX 4000 series body and Kirkham OEM frame for sale. Body is not preped, but has all the inner alumnium panels. The frame is painted and does not have any suspension. Included is a Fuel Safe Systems 18 gallon competition fuel cell. I have over 12K invested, but will sell for $10K. You cant fit a fiberglasbody to a Kirkham frame. The Kirkham frame is prepared to take an alloy body only! Think for the gaps!

Sure you can. I think the Kirkham boys even offered a fiberglass body for a short time.

The Kirkham frame is essentially a Shelby CSX frame. The CSX cars have a fiberglass body.

I see no problem with this combo. Wish I had an extra $10k.

When Shelby first decided to go into the kit business and announced the Fiberglass component car you got a bunch of boxes, the type of frame shown, fiberglass shell and there was an option for the Aluminum panels similar to what is shown in the picture. The Kirkham frame can accomodate an original riveted on Aluminum body or like the Shelby kit a fiberglass body as shown in the picture. In the boxes where everything else you needed to build a Cobra and no real instruction manual....lots of boxes!!!!!!!

The question to be asked about this offering is how to all these bits and pieces fit togther and where did they all come from. If it fits.....$10K is a good deal for what is being offered. I think the original Shelby Component Cobras sold for around $38K.

I'm just curious how you can get parts like this. I don't think you can just order a frame from Kirkham and a body from Shelby. Can you?

Does this car have a vin tag from shelby or KMP?

Will Kirkham sell the rest of the suspension?

If you take a close look at the frame, you will notice that it was manufactured for a fiberglass body.... the 3/4" tubing around the doors, dash cowling, and rear cowling are missing... which is how the frames are set-up for fiberglass bodies. Front and Rear A arms (upper and lower) are available from Tim Gunning, front and rear up-rights are available from AMP, and flaming river makes a rack & pinion unit for the cobra. I can provide contacts / pictures of the suspension pieces if needed.

This is a one off car. It was put together from two cars. Some guy swapped the body of a Kirkham aluminium car with the fiberglass body of an early (Las Vegas series) Shelby CSX so he could end up with an aluminium CSX 4000. His 'glass' CSX had just increased in value about 30K. A lot of trouble to go to, not to mention the expense. But I guess it was worth it to him. He got an aluminium Shelby CSX 4000 without the 2 year wait. I'm lead to believe that this car is now in the Shelby registry as a rebodied aluminium car.

The CSX fiberglass body, with all 1 inch subframing and aluminium sub panels, were professionally attached to the Kirkham frame rails. So everything fits as it should. Unfortunately, this means that my car has no pedigree as it is neither a Shelby nor a Kirkham car. I do have an MSO for the Kirkham frame (KMH 092). And I have an MSO for the entire car from John's Custom Fabricators. This was done long before the Kirkham's decided to test the fiberglass market. I don't believe any were produced as they decided not to do fiberglass.

What you have here a a replica so close to an 'original' or 'continuation'
AC427SC that even OEM suspension and replacement parts will fit. Kirkham Motorsports assures me that their billeted aluminium suspension will also work, as will as all that is needed to complete the car.

In the end, you should have a completed car, $35K to $40K cheaper than a Shelby, but without the rigistry privileges or long wait. You can't order parts like this from SAI. Heck, it's hard enough to order and get the complete car. And Kirkham is not interested in piecing it out either. David has been very gracious and understanding and has offered the necessary suspension components in the past. The last time he had some excellent used parts from an upgraded car, but I didn't have the $5K to buy them. Point is, the parts are available.

I am really having trouble parting with this car, but it really needs to go to someone who can appreciate its value and who can passionately finish what has been started. I've owned it since 1999. I planned to have a "genuine" "Shelby CSX4000 series" car completed for about $45K. I don't care about the registry as this is my dream car not an investment.

That chassis looks identical to a CSX4000 chassis. It must of taken a huge amount of work to remove all the Shelby chassis parts and weld them to the Kirkham main rails. It probably would have been easier to just restamp the Kirkham body/chassis with the Shelby CSX number.

Bastards can be fun too. I was surprised to see Kirkham exhibiting at the Charlotte Auto Fair - the second weekend in April. Something for everybody there. The polished car is beautiful.

That's what I thought too. It may have cost the guy $10K in labor, but he netted $20K in increased value. And all just to have a CSX4xxx with an aluminium body! Re-stamping the frame might have been easier, BUT highly illegal.
Plus, I wouldn't have a replica of a 'genuine' CSX at such a reduced price.

Delivery of the car , in the lower 48 states, is included in that price of $10,000.
