Default SBF 289/302 Weber CROSSRAM! Is it true?

Announcing a new toy for the big boy's. I believe there are very very few people who can say that a set of Weber's on a Cobra doesn't have the ultimate sex appeal and if you can, then shame on you. For many years people have come to accept that a set of 48 IDA's are the defining element of the Cobra... well now I present to you an alternative that is sure to turn alot more than heads. I am sure most everyone has seen a Moon crossram for the small block chevy with 4 sidedraft's at one time in their life and they are absolutely gorgeous. However, what about the Ford? Well now I present to you a new toy for your snake, a crossram for the 289/302! The manifold is designed to use the standard Weber DCOE sidedraft or you can also use it with TWM throttle bodies for the ultimate exotic EFI system!!! The manifold will be in production soon as the tooling is in the final stages of completion. I will attach a few photos later today that will show you just how beautiful it is. Please post any comments you have, and thanks.

Have you tried this manifold with the valve covers on?

THere is a pic here on the site somewhere of the same setup on a small block. It had the dual breather valve covers like you see on many of the daytona's & some of the early comp cars...Wish I could find it now to see if the clearance looked about the same. I would guess you could pull the covers witout removing the carbs??? I would hope

Let us know how the clearance turned out. Looks pretty low. The only two drawbacks I can see besides the valve cover clearance is the DCOE's dont breathe as good as the IDAs and Inglese says that the long length runners cause the "transition" to be affected. I like the looks though and hood clearance is always an issue with Cobra's. Is the plug made from balsa and epoxy? I had a friend once that was in that business. OOOps gotta make a phone call.... Good luck on this project, they will look great on a 289/351/stroker.

Recall that in the day, some of these were tried at Moon's shop and they were rejected in favor of the straight shot 48IDA's. Normally, a nice set of Webers were a bolt-on 40hp upgrade over the 715 on a hot 289. But, the cross-rams were only good for perhaps 20+ and the transition issues were real. Clearance for the hood, warm air entrapment, intake bell clearance and valve cover clearance problems were considered a PIA and killed the desire to make them work well.

The DCOE's are easier to get used, as they were all over many different Jags etc. But, just don't expect them to be high HP unless magic is found by this particular vendor.

For which i hope he is successful and they work well, because they look great.

Can't you just see the turkey pan for this bird?

The photo above of the DCOE's on a 289 is actually a picture of DCOE's mounted on two adapters on a 2x4 intake manifold. It is not a crossram.

If you want an injected crossram, you'd probably be better off with either an old BXR, if you can find one

http://ollavcom.nexpoint.net/naturalaspiration/bxr/

or, buy a new BBK injection manifold which solved the BXR's distributor issues

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

This injection manifold has been available (for around $3,500) for a while. It's made for a 351C though...

Default Not a cross-ram?

Siz
Not quite sure of your point. Are you saying that the mock-up pattern seen on the first post here is not a cross-ram at all? Certainly looks like one to me, but perhaps i have missed your point. i will acceed that the ram effect isn't perhaps huge, but the 'loaded' long intake tubes usually offer some sort of augmentation due to mass air/fuel momentum or do you disagree?

Further, are you saying that the base of this pattern is really a seriously milled-out 2x4bbl intake, onto which only two superstructures have been superimposed? Or are you saying they are not separate and distinct intake tubes?

i admit confusion, straighten me out.

I believe that Sizzler is referring to the photo on post #14 by *13* showing a cross ram on a Blue 289 FIA? Cobra. Looks like adapters on a 2x4 manifold...

Still a nice looking setup.

Not to argue cause' I can't see from the angle of the pic, but how can you tell it's on a 4x2 manifold? Or have you seen it up close?

Default 2x4 intake / adapter

To put to ease the debate of the manifold shown in post #14 with the dcoe's, it is not a dual quad with adapters. That is one of the very few remaining Mickey Thompson crossram's for the 58mm sidedrafts that has had adapters made to change the flange pattern to run dcoe's. I am 100% certain of this because I own one of the M/T crossram's with a set of 58's.
