Frame and rear end
I have what I'm told is an original Cobra frame and rear end from the 60's. No pics yet but I can get them. Can anyone tell me if this is what I have and approx value?
I can't imagine myself having a use for them but thought someone here might and I hate to see cool old stuff going to scrap. I'm not looking to make a bunch of money and would like to see these out of my driveway. I live 2 hours west of St. Louis. MAY be able deliver.

I went over to Rich's to check out the frame he has. It is indeed a Cobra frame with 2x6 rectangle box main rails and smaller rectangle tube floor boxes, etc. There are no number stampings we could find and no other identifying marks by which we could accurately identify it. I looked through the pictures in my copy of Curt Scott's Cobra Buyer's Guide to try to compare various companies frame configuration with what Rich has. There were a couple that looked to be very similar.
I suggested he take some digital photos and post them along with some of the measurements, i;e;, wheelbase, widths, etc. There is a little surface rust in the steel floor pans of the foot boxes but the rest of the frame appears to be rust free with either black paint or powder coat. The rear appears to be set up for a 4-link with a live axle, probably a 9-inch.
There are very solid steel tubing uprights for the door hinges and latch mounts, and for the dash and cowl supports.
For someone wanting to build a Cobra, might be a good way to get started and save a few bucks in the process. Rich said he didn't know what it is worth, so I imagine he would consider offers.

No offense to anybody here but wasn't the frame of the "originals" pretty poor/weak/twisty-under-power in the first place? If so, why would you want to build a "new" car off of that?
I can understand the sentimental value in it, but without the arruminum skin around it, isn't this just a "weak" Cobra frame...?
If you want to flame me have at it... I have my nomex suit on now.. LOL...
Just trying to understand the logic is all...

I am trying to research the origional rear end for the 65 SC. Can anyone tell me what was in the 65 SC? Was it a 9" IRS? 3-Link?? Thanks

I believe the "original" SC's had a Salisbury unit.. Similar to what can be found in the same era Jag XKE (inboard disc brakes, dual coilover shocks...)...
Can be done, but it ain't cheap...
How are things in Kalamazoo? Seen Elvis lately.. LOL...

Did the Salisbury have a 9" center section? Does anyone have the Specs and maybe pictures of the Salisbury unit? I am thinking of building one for my FFR. I have a 427FE and need something to handle the beast. I am a bit sceptical of the ford 8.8 IRS that FFR sells. Thoughts anyone?

The Salisbury is a Dana 44 made under license. It is not a 9".

I am pumping 600+ HP and 645 or so Ft-Lbs of torque into an 8.8" unit...
No problems yet (knocking on wood)... I know of somebody pushing 720+ HP into an 8.8" unit in his SPF and he isn't experiencing any problems either... You have to remember that our cars are so light, that the "rated" HP/Torque on those rear ends doesn't usually apply because they were "rated" for a 4000lb Thunderbird Supercoupe...
There are custom made 9" Ford based "independent" units available out there that can take way more then I am dishing out that would STILL be less $$$ then an "original" NIB condition Salisbury type... I know Everett Morrison was offering the Ford 9" Ind. rear end as an option before they changed to their current roller configuration (maybe they still do?)... Contact them to see where they were getting them from...
I seem to remember that unit running @ $3500 from EM? That was a few years back though and the memory ain't as good as it used to be...
How many HP are you developing with your FE?

No way it's a vintage Cobra frame. So what we have is a frame, with a solid axle, for a 'project' car. Hmmmm, those come around every once in awhile, nothing special.
