Need 427 forged steel crankshaft

I need to replace my crankshaft, if anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Tim,

I'm sorry I can't point you at a crankshaft. I though it worthwhile to share that there are at least two versions of the 427 crank. They're easy to spot. The early version has steel plugs in the crank throws with snaprings holding them in place. The later version has screw-in plugs.

My crank was the early version and I had no troubles with it, but, given a choice, I would opt for the later version for peace of mind if nothing else.

I'm certain that other members of the club will have possible cranks and/or sources for you.

Tim, just curious.....if you must replace your crank, why would you not consider a BRAND NEW 428 (stroke) unit instead of 35 year old part???? I've seen em on Ebay even. Good Luck!

WYT VNM I'm not familar with the NEW 428 stroke unit. If this fits 427 application, how much are they and where can I find one?

Scat offers the 428 replacement cranks with the 3.98 stroke and still uses the Ford rods. Scat also offers 4.125 and 4.250 strokes but require the BBC rods. These run about $800. I'm not sure how much the 3.98 stroke cranks run.

I have a reground 427 forged crank available. It is forged but I believe it is the more common one. It has been reground and is ready to install. I found and NOS one so I did not use it. If interested I can get you the particulars on it...part number & journal sizes. Price is $400 plus shipping.

I also have a rebuilt 427 side oiler long block, minus intake, for sale (.010 over). It is a ribbed block w/ screw-in freeze plugs, forged crank, LeMans rods, ARP bolts, solid lifter cam, adjustable rockers, original Cobra LeMans valve covers, etc, etc.

I also have 289 and 427 chassis plans available.

Tim, I've e-mailed you as well. I have a 427 crank with part number C4AE-AJ. The crank is freshly ground 10-10 and is in excellent shape. Cost is $350.00 plus S&H. Hope this is what you're looking for. Let me know!

Sorry Tim, but I sold the crankshaft this weekend. Hope you'll be able to track down another. If I can be of any assistance in the future, I am an engine builder in Butler, WI. I specialize in the restoration and remanufacture of hi-perf classic and muscle car engines. 'Racing Engines by Doc' is where I do it (see my ad in Hemmings Motor News).

Try Brad Garner, email address bigblockbrad@aol .com, he has the old "plug" style as well as the screw-in versions plus a ton of other FE parts.

I sent you an email, but thought I would post a reply here as well.
I have a forged steel crankshaft for a 427 FE. It is actually a 391T crank with the snout machined for a passenger car application. It has the $ cast into the counterweight, which indicates that it is forged steel. It has been machined to 0.020/0.020. Let me know if you are interested.
