Default Kitcars

I am in need of a kit cobra which is unbuilt. My dad and I want a project to work on before i'm off to college and I think this would be a great one. I just need to buy the parts. I just want a cobra frame/body. I have been looking on the internet for a while now and I can never seem to find anything good. Everything is already built and I can't afford that. Anyone got any help for me?

There are many Cobra manufacturers that sell kits that you have to build.

To name a few:
Hunter Kit Cars
Shell Valley
Factory Five Racing
Antique & Collectible Autos
Classic Roadsters
Lone Star Classics

Also, check out
Cobra Country

That's a good start anyway

Hey snake- how much did it end up costing you for everything? How much time? My dad (who is paying for all this.. since it will be his car) only wants to spend about 15,000 on it. We originally were going to restore an MGB, then it went to an MGA, and now I'm looking into 280z's and zx's. I love Cobras and they're my dads favorite car, so it would be awesome if I could get one!

Thanks for the websites, I'll check those out right now!!

$15k? I don't think you could build a FFR for that. Your best bet would be to find a kit that somebody started and never finished.

It can cost however many $$ your willing to spend.

Sort of a snide comment, I know. The truth is you may be able to find a Body/frame for maybe 10k, then you have everything else, engine, trans, electrics and gauges, lights, rearend, frontend, brakes, wheels and tires, interior, paint and body work and all the misc. BS that goes into building a car. $$$$$ add up, and up ,to get it right.

Some very promising Cobra kits often come up for sale ,some driveable, many near complete rollers, at a fraction of the cost the owners have in them--check the previous mentioned sites often--

If you have around 15k find an MGA--drop a small block in it--go scare a Cobra owner or two--at least for the time being
MEANWHILE :
keep you and your Dad's dream of a Cobra alive and work toward that goal.

actually.. I was leaning toward a 240Z and drop in something else, possibly a 280ZX(turbo) and rebuild+real nice turbo over the MGA just becasue they look like they're a lot easier to work on. My aunt had a 240Z and it was SO simple(as is the MGA) BUT the MGA's hood is very small making it hard to get to everything you need. We'll see, I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled for a cobra still thought, god I ABSOLUTELY LOVE these cars. Plus it would complete my dads life!

Tobb
Nothing wrong with Z-cars owned a pair of 280's and my wife had a 300 turbo, the 240 was the best looking IMO--

Reason i suggested the MGA was because, many, many moons ago I had a '57 that we shoehorned a Chevy small block into--I was a senior in HS -- we called it a "poor man's Cobra"--had chrome reverse rims-- and was a convertible-- and would scream when you put your foot to the pedal.

Good luck in your search--keep your Cobra dreams alive

yea my dad used to have an MG, he said it was a "screaming machine!!" mga's look SO fun to drive, I think my dads friend has an MGA w/ an amazing body sitting in his garage. Thats where I got the idea, it's a 59 BTW. Anyway I just started looking up cars cause I really need something to work on, and my car is really nice as is. It's a 92 Acura Integra GS. I think it has about 155 HP w/ intake and exhaust. It sounds/looks amazing and has a $2500 sound system (dont worry my daddy didn't buy all that crap for me!) it came w/ it! but I dont wanna put too much more money into that baby because it's front wheel drive, so not fun compared to rwd or awd!! It's my baby though
