Excaliber Headers
Looking for headers for an Excaliber, 5.0.
They meet straight out in the middle 7 inches from the head.
Did anyone stash the parts when they went belly up?
This or a contact for someone who can make them at a
reasonable price.
If anyone also was able to make them not leak that would
be interesting as well, I even tried making dead coper
gaskets better but not perfect what a bad design
All options and opinions considered!

David, Do you have the old headers? I'm sure they can be repaired if you do. Since the Excaliber was almost an exact copy of the Classic Roadsters Cobra I'm sure those headers would be the same unless your car is equipped with the catalytic converters and the crossover system. Those headers were much shorter. Either way new ones can be made.

Wow that was a quick response...
Unfortunately I have the catalytic converters and the crossover system. They cracked down the middle and then shot around on one pipe, I fear they are beyond repair. I started calling around and heard 1,000.- for even simple (and you know these couldn't get any simplier) custom made headers. Well heck maybe I'm just a cheap SOB but that's a lot of money. I know they had spare headers when they closed because I had talked to them about buying a set and having new flanges put on or those rocker style connections instead of laying the car up and then poof they were gone.
I had the one guys home phone number who built them and helped me a few times but like a jerk I lost it.
I guess if nothing turns up I need to know if just expect to pay 1G or someone can supply a referral which may have better pricing.
Thanks again, I appreciate the response.
David.

David, If you want to have the headers remade I can have them done for about $350. You could also eliminate the crossover system and use standard headers without the cats. You would probably have to get an extension from the header to the sidepipe because the sidepipes you have exit closer to the body to allow the cats and pipes. Not a major problem. I may also be able to find a set of the short style header you have. Which engine do you have, Ford 302?

David, I just noticed you have the 5.0 in the car. I think I can come up with a set of headers that will fit. I'll do some checking.

I hope A LOT of people read this !!!
Don Scott went way out of his way and found me a set of replacement headers at a price even a cheap SOB like me could afford. If there's ever a choice for a service that Don can provide he gets a triple A++ rating from me.

Don,
I have an Excalibur with the full Cat system. I have to think there must be stubbier cats available now then the ones they used back in the mid 90's. Do you think it would be possible to make a new simpler system with tru headers for the Excal that would get rid of all the hardware under the car, ad HP and still pass emissions?

Don I hope you got my e-mail about buying the headers AND sidepipes for my Excalibur.
I will be "loosing" the stock shorty 5.0 headers and going to a "real" set as soon as you ship them! Guess what? Mine old ones have cracked several times, I just keep welding them up! No leaks at the motor though.
Old style: 4 into 1 that comes straight out from the motor and end in a two bolt flange. Cats have been removed. A new piece of exhaust pipe was "adapted" to the two bolt flange and the other end was then welded to four bolt plate side pipe collector flange. Right side exhaust now exits on the right side, left goes out the left, no more crossover stuff.
And after doing all that??? They headers STILL crack!

Doug, I had a set of sidepipes made a few years ago with the cats in the pipes. If you want to keep the cats that would be an option. Excaliber also eliminated his which I'm sure helped his HP. You may want to give that a try. Otherwise you can replace the headers and sidepipes with a full flow system.

dscott/david fagan:
the Excalibur-Header problem is just beeing discussed in the "Excalibur Owners please reply" thread. My headers do leak also, it already affects the electronic motor management.
Could you tell me the details(Manufa./Serial No.) of the fitting headers you found, I could try to find them over here. (5l/302)
Thanks a lot!

OH!!! Good point Alloys. With an EFI car I will have to have a "bung hole" to screw in the Oxy sensor!
Don, the Classic Roadsters headers for the Excal's got that?

No they don't, you will have to weld a bung in the header or sidepipe.
aloys, I only have 1 more pair but I can have them made to fit if you want an exact copy of what you have. I would need your headers to do this.

Don, thanks for the offer. Sending them back and forth will cost a considerable amount of money, I did that before. I can have a copy made here too. I thought the set could be bought in a store , than I could have tried that over here. Again, thanks.

aloys, sorry I just noticed where you are from. I'm sure shipping would be expensive.

The Oxy sensor bung can be welded in here no problem. It IS important to keep it as close as possible to the engine. Side pipe would be to far down stream to get "good" readings.
