Motolita is the maker of the steering wheels and you can still get one made. I don't know if Brooklands is still around, but they or Finishline are probably the distributor for Motolita in this country. I bought mine through Brooklandsd and it came in a Motolita box, straight from England. It was NOS equipment and made to the exact pattern.
NOTE: You need the hub also as the bolt pattern does not fit other hubs. The splines in the hub are also not going to fit just any steering shaft. You'll need to have the shaft made or find an old MG to tear up to get one.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: The correct hub is not a perfect cylinder as are the hubs provided with "component cars". It is barrel shaped.
Original steering wheels were/are 16" diameter, 9 rivets, dished and of the "split ring" design. For a 427 car, the center cap is black with silver ring and silver Cobra in the center. There is no lettering of any kind on them.
The wheel is installed with countersunk allen screws and the hub with a single nut in the center, which is recessed for the purpose.
If you want to add to the mystery, use a mid sixties Volkswagen turn signal assembly. Mount it so the lever is to your right. That's how the originals are.
Hope this sheds a little light on the real wheels.
