Default Original 65 shelby guage dash pod

Once again I come to you all for some info that I know I can only find here....any 65 shelby owners out there? I am trying to find out how does one tell an original guage pod for a replica? I have been told by one that has a 65 that he pulled his pod for restoration and it had a lable on the inside that said AJs plastics and now I see a second one that is being sold as NOS with the same lable...any help please....I thought the originals had a textured top with smooth face.. as this one is a smooth top smooth face , no texture but still fiberglass...

Easy - if it's a gauge pod, it's not from a '65 Cobra. Cobra's had a dash with individual gauges.

..I think he is referring to the gauge pod on the '65 GT-350R.

Default GT350 guages

Not to split hairs, but, I imagine he is talking about guages from a 1965 Shelby GT350 "street" model - as shown in Ron's picture. The Shelby GT350 "R" model did not use this pod - it had a special cluster with unique guages. I'm sure Ron knows that, he's just a little tired, or hasn't had enough coffee yet

regards,
cobrajeff

Hi guys...thanks so much for the posts...I should have made my post a little clearer...yes I was refering to the 65 mustang shelby street model.....I know this is a cobra forum but have gotten some good info on the 65 shelby and parts here at this forum so I hope I cause no offense to anyone ...but you guys realy know your stuff....

So I have been trying to figure out how do you tell an original from a repro...do far all I think I know is that they were fiberglass and that the tops of them were textured and the face and bottom was smooth other than that I dont know how to tell an original from a repro...now I had the question about the AJs plastics lable on the inside that someone said was on theres and one I just saw for sale that claimed to be NOS...but someone else told me that those were early 80s repops....so here I am coming back to where I have gotten most of my answers to my questions from people who know what they are talking about...or maybey a referal to someone who might know???

Thanks again !!

Ron making a mistake is more rare than the guages from an R model.

Hi Jimmy,

I have an original dash pod after having purchased a repo first. The originals are hand laid fiberglass. The repops I've seen are a vacuumed formed plastic and quite lite weight compared to the originals. Now could there have been original plastic ones purchased by Shelby American? Possibly but I doubt it. Shelby was always buying parts from different suppliers in order to meet production but I have not heard of any diferences in the pods.

Ken
