Superformance SBF Motor mounts
To start off I removed the driver side motor mount and found a crack propagating across, Now the fun begins... First of all I would expect the motor mount to cross reference to a Ford Mustang "NOT" The mustang mount is to high, the mount that I removed is a lower profile mount. Does anyone know what mount fits this Cobra? I would at the very least expect Superformance to have a parts list that cross-references to all the parts on this Cobra" thats asking for to much". The stress from not burbling down the high way is taking its toll, not to speak of the insomnia to cosmic heights and it will take a weeks worth of Cobra to heal the lesions. Stressed out.
you got to know this one Mrfixit

Why not start with a SPF dealer for the info. Give them the # of your car and they should be able to tell you what you need. Now if you bought a pre-owned car, and the drive train was installed by the previous owner, anything goes. Try the easy solution 1st!

the motor mounts bought from Ford are made in India, and have a very variable quality, i have seen boxes of new ones with cracks, splits, and just so bad they were unusuable.
So Dennis Olthoff put on his custom urethane SBF motor mounts on my SPF, they hold it rock steady, and don't transmit any more vibration to the car. Plus, even under the motor, they look really nice.
If you want to do it right, once, call Dennis Olthoff, the east coast SPF dealer.
He finally made up his own mounts, because the quality of the Ford India ones was so awful.

I also installed the Olthoff custom urethane motor mounts on my SPF, after almost 2 years of using rubber mounts (I took Hal's advice shortly after he had his changed over!).
I am very happy with mine also. They look great, and there is no noticeable increase in vibration (still using a rubber trans mount). There is no more "rocking" of my engine under hard acceleration as I had with the Ford rubber mounts (the top of the left pipe and the bottom of the right pipe showed marks from hitting the body cutout when I was using the rubber mounts).
You can contact the Olthoffs at their website or get phone contact information at
http://www.olthoff-racing.com/
They are a pleasure to do business with, and are a part of Cobra history.
take care,

Jim K.
Question: Did you have to change/buy the pedestals along with the mounts, or did the mount fit the existing pedestals. Also how much cost? I do like the urethane motor mounts better than the rubber, The urethane motor mounts that i looked at were trap mounts, even if the urethane separated the engine would not hop up on its hind legs, but the problem with the urethane motor mounts that I looked at they would have raised the engine up 3/4 to .800 inch "I would have needed new pedestals. I hope I was clear enough in this reply.
Oh yea, on average how long did the rubber mounts last for you?
P.S. The lesions have started to retreat

Found the mounts
The mounts for the SPF are part number 2287, this is 1967 convertible cross ref. But at NAPA they are 602-1152's and 7 dollars cheaper than Mustang shops. At kragan the ysaid they were galaxy mounts "go figure". The mount has been reinvented with a bolt thru the two common metal half's making the mount stronger. I researched the Olthoffs mounts and found that they are chevy energy suspension mount adapted to fit the modified pedestals of the SPF, also with a bracket to fit the block. I am going to modify the pedestals to fit the Prothane Mustang mount which will only require the pedestals to be modified, at $23.00 per for the pedestals and $110.00 for a set of Prothanes, comes in cheaper than the 200.00+ for the Olthoffs setup. The pedestals will only have to be shortened by .600 - .750 to allow for the prothanes. but for now I will run the 602-1152's from NAPA at $11.00 per side. The mount i took off was a pile of crap, the one i bought with the bolt ran thru the 2 metal piece's and thru the rubber was stronger looking. I hope this helps SPF people out
Thanks for the help fellow Cobra folks
