Cobra spare tire
As a new cobra owner I need to know what other owners are doing about a spare? I assume you would get a temporary "donut" style as to keep weight down? Any contacts where to buy them, or is there something else everyone is doing? I am enjoying every minute of my new experience!

Bruce,
All I carry is a couple cans of fix-a-flat. I will not sacrifice the room for an actual "spare tire". Hope that helps.
Chris

Same here. A couple of cans of "fix a flat" and a small 12 volt air compressor. Compact and cheap!

Carry a cell phone and AAA card for anything bigger than what "fix-a-flat" will handle.

A cell phone and a car charger for it. No donuts, unless the cop asks.

I purchased a 15"x6" pin drive Trigo and mounted a conventional, but smaller tire than come stock on an SPF. I also carry a can of fix-a-flat, but the distances between repair facilites in Montana is too great and the country in between too remote for me to feel comfortable relying on a short term fix. When I'm driving in the valley I rely on the fix-a-flat; road trips call for the spare. This way I can always make it back to a professional tire shop.

Two cans of fix a flat are in the boot along with a tire awl and plug materials in case I pick up a big piece of metal. A spare would just take too much trunk space for me. It would be nice to have a pin drive mini wheel of the space saver type if it did not take much space.
This is no different a technique than the Z06 Vette's use. They have not had onboard spares for a long time on the Z06.

A spare out of a Dodge Stealth is the correct height and five bolt pattern on mine. It is a very thin, about six inches, and isnt' very heavy. Don't have to worry about whether the fix a flat will fix the flat. Don't think they come in a pin drive though, . Cheap to get at a junkyard though. Sorry, salvage yard.

RE: continental kit.
Not so far from a practical solution!
Trunk mounted "luggage racks" were common on sports cars of Cobra vintage. Adapt one to your car and strap on any kind of spare you like, even two!! I think this would provide a good "comfort factor" for road trips.

Vettes have not had a spare tire since the C5 was introduced. They do have run-flat (extended mobility) tires as the come from the factory.

Collapsible Spare Tire
Just for piece-of-mind, I carry a 15" collapsible spare tire, mounted to a special-ordered 5" wide PSE FIA style wheel.
It still leaves room for Halon, tools, tonneau, cruisin' chairs, and waxer accessories.
regards,
cobrajeff

WOW - I asked for input and got everything from carrying nothing to carrying everything. I use slime a lot so it sounds like the slime, 12V pump and some plugs will work for local running. I actually bought a little kit that is no more than 12 x 6 x 6 that has a pump, slime, plugs and tools in a bag. I think I will hit the dead car yard to see if I can find a donut style temporary tire for travelling. I will post what I find. Thanks for all the feedback. I hope CobraBill has his shoes on if/when he get a flat in those Arizona deserts - that concrete gets hot!!! LOL
