260/289 eggcrate grille
Hi,
Looking to install an alum. eggcrate grille on my slabside replica to match the look of the early 260/289 street cars. Anyone have one (reproduction)hanging on the garage wall?
Thanks,
Dale

Dale,
I know Aurora was early to the replica party, but every mouth opening seems to be a little bit different. You'd probably need to make an accurate template and have one custom made.
Unique just delivered this turnkey-minus 289 street car (not a slabside) to a new owner, who specified the egg-crate grill. You might contact them:

ERA will ship one with their cars. They may be willing to point you to the MFG if they are not willing too sell you one.

Whatever you do, just make sure it fits the opening in your car.

That grill never did "grow" on me, I thought it might over time. Just not my cup of tea I guess.

Oinie, this is one of the reasons I think you get cross-wise with people sometimes. Your preference is "kind of" irrelevant on a thread like this, and this is not the Lounge, where getting cross-wise is expected.
Several of us were just trying to help someone find what he wanted. That's all that counts and our respective preferences don't matter.

As has been said Finishline has them as does I think Cobra Restorers...yet it seems every company has a slightly different grill opening. Check your grill opening dimensions closely.
They are just the right thing to set off a 289 street roadster...gives the car a real "sports car classic" look. Good luck in your search.

A real "sports car classic" look. Hey wait a minute, was that an opinion? I agree, it IS! But I'm still not crazy about it. Pro's and Con's, something a buyer has a right to know.
Come to think of it, Aroura's should have come with an egg crate grill from the factory? Was it damaged or removed by the original owner? It is the "correct" look for a "slab side", not sure what it's doing on a "flair side".

Thanks for all the help so far. Finish line and Cobra restorers have lost the ability to have grilles made and the manufacturers that I,ve contacted didn't really want to get involved so it looks like I'll have one made.
The Auroras came with a black plastic grille with a much smaller eggcrate pattern and just doesn't look "right" and I was hoping that someone who might have the correct looking grille who doesn't care for that look would part with it,even if I had to...modify it a little to get it in. And I think it's a must on a street slabside.
Oh and I'm glad that we all don't like the same exact details on our cars.
Thanks,
Dale
