side pipes and paint.

I want to freshen up the side pipes and was wondering which black paint (flat) I could dust over the nearly perfect pipes with just a few spots maybe from someones ankles

you might try the flat black hi temp paint they use for bbq cookers it'e sold at home depot and thats what i use until i get my side pipes power coated

I don't want to coat my sidepipes, seen to many with 'burn marks' or other irregularities that are basically permanent. You don't want to paint coated sidepipes, sometimes you can't clean them up, your stuck.

I use a standard VHT (very high temperature) paint to touch up mine from time to time. Or even change the color as the mood strikes me. I've had them white and black (black is easier to touch up).

Local Auto Parts store usually has the paint. For a QUICK touch up, I've noticed simply a 'light scrubbing' with a 3M pad touches them up quite nicely and blends in with the overall paint cover very nicely. You might try that on an obscure part before you 'break out the paint'.

I used HT Silicone Coating from DEI (Design Engineering,Inc) rattle can. The code is 010301 Black. The pipes came out great.

I have gone away from ceramic coating, and back to VHT on all of our cars. The VHT is very easy to touch up, and their flat black looks good after a touch up.

Don makes a good point about the 'typical' VHT rattle can paint. It can be VERY frustrating getting it to flow\coat smoothly. It tends to bubble and at certain times leaves a wierd 'pattern' on the surface. Tricky stuff to get it right.

I like the pipes to be WARM and I don't get to close, kind of 'drift' it on. That HT Silicone paint sounds interesting, might be more user friendly, I think I'll look for some.

I used Duplicolor ceramic on my side pipes. The temp of the exhaust cures the ceramic and gives a pretty durable coating. It touches up nicely also. I think I paid about 8.00/ can and used 2 1/2 cans. Just enough left over to keep them nice for a long time.

Hey Sportyworty, If you are gon'a trailer the car then get 'em chromed. If you are driving the Cobra like a real man, then go and get some VHT, FlameProof coating. flat black # SP-102, 1,500 degree F. DON'T use the crap from Home Depot. You must get a 1,200 degree or higher paint. If you have the burn mark from some stupid person then use a little Scotch Brite gently on the area. This is not rocket science stuff. The VTH that I mentioned will last about 5 months. I usually repaint mine about 4 times a year. But then again I drive over 1,000 miles a month. My last Cobra had over 45,000 miles and this one has over 13,000 in seven months. As for the flowing smoothly, that is up to you, you can hold the can real close of you can hold it away and get a better pattern. John

Hey, any of you guys tried this stuff? I know some of you have mentioned getting away from ceramics and leaning towards simple high temp paint but i read some forums where guys seem to like this stuff. No baking required, the exhaust temp from running will harden it.
