Default 427 Fuel Filter

I am looking for info on the chrome canister type fuel filter that goes between the fuel pump and Carb. It is normaly hard lined. Where I can purchase or the part number. Any info will help. I see them on the 427 side oiler on the 64 Thunderbolts and some Cobra's.

Thanks,
Sobz

You might try Tasca Ford in RI or 'flea bay'. If it's OEM it will be costly. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure that the filter housing was originally Ford blue. But then again people tell me that I'm getting senile.

The canister filter housing was a painted item...so, it sure could have been blue to match the blue-block 1966-up engines.

It was black on the 1965 black-blocks.

Also, Fomoco sold "dress-up kits" that included a chrome filter canister.

Interesting that I have more than a few early street car pics that show a clear-plastic, inline filter in its place.

The canister filter must have leaked back then, too.

It's also a little restrictive on a high HP engine. A trick I was told is to just drill the flanges large enough to pass your fuel line through. Thus no restriction and you still get the look of the canister. No leaks either! I have a aftermarket canister I bought from a forum member. It's just a plain steel one but I was able to highly polish it with a dremel and the polishing kit. From what I understand Cobra Restorers sells the aftermarket canisters for like $60. Looks pretty good too!!! The oems can go for close to $200 that I've seen. Natch you'll need a filter elsewhere inline.

Try $300 and the OEM ones don't leak. I had a chrome one on my 63 1/2 Galaxie and a painted one on my Cobra.

I have a after market chrome one and a black powder coated bracket that I will let go for $125.00
The chrome filter has been JB welded closed so it won't leak.

PM me if you are interested

Hey Tony, Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I have all the lines and the brackets. I'd really like just the black one for the cobra but not sure what would be "more correct". Do you want to get rid of the whole thing or just the canister?

Frank,
Check on Ebay. I saw a few OEM fuel filter canisters on there. If you have everything else you can just get the canister. Most of the time it is the bracket that is hardest to find.
The OEM one on my engine cost me a pretty penny, but I can use it as the fuel filter. The chrome aftermarket one is JB welded close.
