Where to get a 289c.i. eng.
Anyone know where to get a original looking 289c.i. motor? I am looking for vendors of these engines, I will need the weber style intake, cobra valve covers, side oil coolers, all aluminum fittings, stock appearing distributor with black wires, and a Ford Galaxie wide ratio Toploader will be used along with under car exhaust. I need the motor to be as close to orginal looking as it can be. Thanks in advance for the help. jimig@standardtransmission.com

Unless you are required by rules to have early casting #'s, and since you just said "close to original LOOKING", I would get a 5.0 roller motor and set a 289 reciprocating assembly ( of stock or aftermarket components). If you wanted stock early head, they are readily available used. I have a '66 set as well as some 351W '70 heads. Early heads aren't the best for performance so they don't draw high dollar, except the Hi-Po heads and they have no flow advantage. If that isn't a problem the 5.0 heads can also be used and there seems to be many suppliers for the other parts you need in the aftermarket.

George is very helpful. I had some bonehead questions about 428 FE's and he took the time to explain what to look for. He built a nice 347 stroker for another CC member, and it looked great, webers and all. Saw this car & engine at the Palo Alto Concours last year. Nice work. I think he has pictures of it on his web site.

Fred Jones Mfg.
Years ago I restored a 65 mustang and purchased a long block through a Ford dealer that came in a box labled Fred Jones Mfg. Don't know if they still do it? Good engine however.

Fred Jones is an Oklahoma City Remanufacturing Arm of Ford but I am not sure they are still doing that.

Call Bob Gelsi at 856-692-3178
I'll bet he has two or three dozen to choose from. Maybe even a nice HiPo or two.

if you are looking for old Mustang Parts, you can try Indy Mustangs. The guy carries all kinds of old stuff and knows alot about Mustang and Ford Engines.
I will post his phone number if he is stil in business. Its in Indianapolis but if you
want to buy parts,i don't know if the guy will ship it to where you are.He can also
probably answer questions about Mustang parts and their adapablity to different transmissions and such or whatever questions you may have.

Some of these older original parts can be hard to find in the junkyard.I went to several ones and did not find the plate of the proper thickness to go in betwen a 289 and a C4. I had to go to this guy and he wanted more for it then the junkyards did and they did not have it so that goes to show you how some of this older stuff is hard to find at just a regular junkyard. The 289 blocks are hard to come by also and the one that i had taken out of the car had a sleeve in it that the machine shop found so i ended up using a 302 block
that the machine shop got for me.

Another thing also that i had to have done on the original heads is that some of the seats were so badly worn that they had to weld pieces to the head itself to
reseat the head completely due to the age of it,so unless you know what you are getting for sure pulling motors and transmissions out of old cars is alot of work for not knowing what you are getting in return as far as the mechanical condition of it and the same for buying it from the scrap yard or any one else for that matter so be sure to look closely for these types of things and if you are knowledgeable about engines you should know what to look for when in the market for stuff this old.

How much do you want for the small block weber setup and do you sale them all of the time? It looks pretty radical and also whats the best compnentry to run with the this type of setup as far as internals like cam, valvetrain components etc. my email is cjohn@indy.rr.com. I am assuming you need a good cam and a good fuel delivery system even though i am just using a stock type fuel pump with an Edelbrock carb and Performer Rpm setup on a 289 with just stock heads
and it sounds pretty radical,A little more then what i expected.
This stuff is kinda new to me. Post a reply or email.

compaq, try... http://www.piercemanifolds.com/ or http://www.carburetion.com/index.htm for Weber carbs.
You can pay as much or as little as you want depending upon your "bling" needs.

Just an FYI, before you do business with Indy Mustang, do a search as his reputation is less than stellar..

The above small block Weber setup was built by Inglese Inductions. It is all new, polished and chromed, never installed. It is complete and while it is brand new, it is as original. You can see a similar setup installed on my big block in my gallery. It always draws lots of attention whenever the hood is opened. If you go to the Inglese website and price this setup, it will be more than $10,000 plus shipping and tax. I will sell it for $8,000.
