New Jersey Registration and emissions.
This is my first post. I did search this forum, but could not find any info. I am seriously looking to purchase a Cobra soon. Is there anything I need to know about registering a replica Cobra in New Jersey. The cars I am looking at are complete and have been registered in other states. Does it matter what year the car was built? What year it was titled as? I am also concerned about the car passing emissions. I would hate to buy a car and then not be able to drive it!
Thanks,
Fred

captain172 Jersey is a bit of a pain. If you can do it in another state, it would be alot easier. Jersey was going my motor block year. Not sure if that was changed to completed year. You know it's all about money in this state. If you call motor vehicle in Trenton they will send you a packet for this kind of car. [i]t also might be on the web too. Rick L. Good luck

I had the same concerns when I bought: I made registration of my car in New Jersey a conditional to the sale. I hired a lawyer in the state I purchased the car (Rhode Island) for $250, escrowed the funds with the lawyer, registered the car in New Jersey and then had the funds released after I had a good registration.

Questions you need to answer first...
1.) What state is it currently registered in?
2.) What model year is it currently registered as?
3.) What engine is in the car?
4.) What is the date code of the block?
Answer all 4 and we can provide some guidance.

Al's car (beautiful by the way) is fuel injected, not sure if it has the stock cats or not, if not, then they will need to be installed along with a set of sidepipe covers for the initial inspection. Otherwise, it should not be a problem to get his car to pass NJ emissions and safety inspections.

Al,
I assume then you are perhaps selling him the car? Bad news is that in the eyes of the current NJ process you have all the strikes against you. Since it is not legally registered in another state as a 1965 (or anything prior to 1970ish, and note I included the word legally since a number of states allow this) then you must take the car through the emissions process. Since the car has a 1992 date coded block that establishes the standard to which the car will be held in regards to required equipment and emissions levels.
