Default Support AB 1740 - bill to delete 500 limit on SB100

"Hello! This is an urgent bulletin for all California residents and Goodguys members who own, appreciate or who are building a rod, custom or classic car. We all need to act now in support of Assembly Bill 1740, a bill which would delete the current 500 ‘kit-car’ limit on the number of specialty constructed vehicles that can be registered in the state on an annual basis.

AB 1740 will be heard in the Assembly Transportation Committee on Monday, March 22, at 1 PM, in Sacramento, CA. Please note that the “official” deadline for having your support registered in the official committee analysis is Tuesday, March 16."

It has "failure" written all over it.

Done,

Calls made and e-mails sent. Rod Knock it will most likely not pass but as long as all we do is sit around and say it has no chance then we have no one but ourselves to blame. At least the ones who call or contact the assemblymen are trying to support it.

Agree with you Ron. With the State of California trying to squeeze every penny they can from every resident, the ONLY hope is that the desire for $$$ will outweigh the (unfounded) concerns about smog issues.

...or it may result in a enviro-commie legislator waking up and seeking dissolution of the SB100 exemption.

First, if choose to, it's my G-d given right to do nothing. Second, why would I want an unlimited amount of these cars on the road? We need better air.

Nice! You've turned into an environmentalist on us? They could open up the floodgates and I'm pretty certain that you wouldn't see a significant increase in the number of cars on the road.

Remember the 30-year exemption? It was frozen at 1975 after someone tried to change it to exempt all cars 25 years or older.

Yep, that's me (as I throw my plastic Big Mac container into the garbage, sip bottled water and throw my six-pack plastic tie/wrap into the ocean).

You're probably right. I just remember the BAR ref telling me that my Cobra put out 8 times the emissions of a gas-powered Honda from 2007-2008 and made me feel quilty about it.

G-D tree hugger. Leave that to the Prius owner that is about to rear-end you.

I'm on the Goodguys email distribution list and just received a message regarding the bill. Good to see their involvement and push to get the message out.

Just called my assemblyman's office to put my name down for support of AB1740. It took longer to find his phone number than to make the call!!!

Got all my e-mails sent.
I cannot believe that this would not be a slam dunk, anytime but especially now with the economic climate. Yes, yes, yes all the green movement stuff...but really let's get real. The number of miles that these cars are driven vs. the dollars spent building them registering them and maintaining them! Come on! the dollar per ppm of CO or Nox must be off the charts. I drive my little Honda 20,000 miles a year and it cost me $135 to register each year.

The State would get more money with less environmental and highway system impact with my Kirkham than my Honda.

Well just before the deadline, I sent in emails to the Assemblymen ... hope it helps to enhance what already exists or shows enough interest so as to keep what we already have. The 500 limit is a lot better than 0 ... we'll see how it goes.

If you are so worried about the air then why don't you stop driving yours? I too have my SB-100 number but would like to see others have a chance to get them.

Wasn't that the law that was originally supposed to roll it back one year each year? From 1975, to 1974 the next year and so on. I believe it that is the one I am thinking of that a couple of people around here were just waiting for the next year to roll it back so they could build wild rides out of their 1974 cars.

I received an update today from my friend Eddie regarding the status of AB 1740.

Eddie, along with a lawyer from The GoodGuys will be presenting the facts to the Transportation Committee on Monday, March 22nd. The message got out to a lot of car enthusiasts and Eddie told me that the Assembly members were surprised at the volume of calls and letters that they received.

It's a long shot, so we'll see what happens.
