registering FFR MKIV, what tyres do I need?

When taking your completed replica for registration and safety checks and so on, to you need to have DOT approved tires? what would happen if I went with the goodyear bilboards (which apparently are not DOT approved) would I get through the inspections or would I need to fit some other tires for the tests?
