The CHP inspects the car supposedly looking for any parts that may be stolen. Some are better than others. Then they issue the vin number and will normally put it where it can be seen but ask you where you would like it so as to not mess up the looks of the car.

Any Police Officer can sign off on a Vin Verification - this is basically a form that states that the Vin stamped on vehicle matches the Vin on paperwork. That's it. This is different than taking a car without a Vin to the CHP for the CHP to assign/affix a Vin to the vehicle. Sure, you can take your Vin Verification to the CHP, but it is not a requirement to have the CHP sign off on the Vin Verification.

Typically, it will take about 10 to 14 work days to receive it. However, the DMV has been inundated with DL processing lately, so it could take longer. Call Lisa and ask her to check on it.

No worries, it will show up in the mail. It can take longer than 2 weeks.
