I would tend to agree, sounds like they are taking a closer look at your application. Did you claim everything in your costs, to DMV? They are looking for every dollar they can get. If you included everything, it should be alright, or you would have heard by now.

Sometimes they just take their sweet old time about it!

the lady at the dmv took the reciepts she wanted and totaled them up charged me 100 bucks more than the $1000. i allready paid,(seemed like she was trained in the art of squezzing)now I'm wondering who i should call to ask whats going on?

How long has it been since you turned in all your completed paperwork? Sometimes, DMV does take 6 weeks. I have had several title transfer stuff with DMV and some took 2 weeks and some took almost 2 months before I got stuff in the mail.

it's been two weeks so i guess i should just wait.The dmv gave me another TOP till jan 31, just feels like something will happen after the new year,like i'll have to pay some more . wah ,wine ,wah,wine a little cheese with the wine

What is "Titles Unlimited?" I was looking at an SPF on Cobra Country. The car is located in Indiana and the based on the emails that I traded with the seller, the car is registered as a 65 Ford Convertible with the VIN plate from "an original 65 convertible." Any idea if that would create any problems registering the car and applying for SB-100?

Run, don't walk, away from that car, if you intend to bring it into Calif.! Your chances of having an easy registration experience are slim. Plenty of other properly registered cars out there to choose from, it's not worth the risk.

Do a search here on CC for "Titles Unlimited". You'll find out everything you need to know!

Just properly registered as what it truly is.
A Superformance should be registered as a Specially Constructed Vehicle with 'Superformance' as the manufacture. It's not a "Ford" anything.

Got The Bug

Jdog and Randy are right on. Don't even think about bringing that SPF with a felonous VIN on it to California. What happens if you do?
You go to DMV to try to register it in Calif, and the clerk will not know how to handle it, calls the supervisor, the supervisor looks at the current registration, tells you to wait a second, goes to the back room to report your car to Sacramento, Sacramento puts your car in a database for fraudulantly registered cars, Supervisor tells you "no can do" and strongly advises you to remove the car from the state of CA or it will confiscated if seen being driven on California road. Later on, you may get a visit from the Sheriff.

Anyway, if you take the time, you will find a Cobra for sale here in CA that is already properly registered. Mind you will pay a little extra for one that is already SB100 registered but it is all worth it.

Bottom line is, if you bring a "clean" cobra from out of state, no matter how it is titled from that state, California will make you do the SPCN registration -no ands, ifs, buts about it, period! BTW, best to stay away from Alabama titles.

Just so I am clear, the Brake and Light inspection and corresponding form 256 does not have to be completed on my first visit to the DMV witht he car and form 343 and 5036 completed...correct?

I should get the car next week...Tuesday - Thursday sometime. It was put on the truck this Wednesday. However as seen by all, a heck of a winter storm is zipping through the midwest and upper mideast sections of the country...which just happens to be in route of my delivery vehicle courtesy of Inner City Transport. Default SB100 for 1903 Curved Dash Olds Replica

I stumbled across your excellent forum while trying to research SB100 for my currently registered, but unable to smog, Olds replica (looks like a buggy). Seems DMV allowed me to register it for the first time in Calif with a 18 cc displacement Kohler engine. Totally not approved for CA roads. What did I know. Never went to BAR. Got plates, etc. Have had it non-operational. Get annual registration notices. Well, thinking about selling it. Find that smog certif. required. Guess what. Can't smog. Shouldn't have been licensed to begin with. DMV fault, but guess whose got the problem. So I have an 8am appt. Jan2 in Long Beach. My question is: If you sell your vehicle, does the SB100 exemption pass on to the buyer with no problems, addtnl fees, etc? A page on DMV site for SPCNS (this must be what Cobra kit cars are) states, SPCNS Certificates of Sequence cannot be transferred to a different vehicle or reissued in someone else's name. What's with this reissuing stuff?

I can only offer my experience; I brought in a SPCNS car from out of state that came with a title. Instead of dealing with the out of state stuff I remove the plates from the car. removed the plastic vin number that was assigned to the car. went to dmv and completed a form 'statement of facts'. claimed I built the car and then got title and registration with no problems. I am not sure it was the perfect way to get it done but it seemed to be best for me at the time. Sometime the less the DMV knows the better off you are.

In somecases the seller might be better off to remove the vin, tear up the stuff from thier state (and or tell thier state they junked the vehicle) and then issue a bill of sale for the car and let the new owner go thru the process with thier own state dmv. This will vary on the orginations state and new destination state.

Maybe they're not talkin'. I was at the DMV at 5:30 am, along with 4-5 other SB100 seekers. I got my number at 11:45 am...number 493. (the other's numbers were in the upper 480s). I can't believe that someone didn't go home disappointed that day.

Good luck to everyone, I don't think I could go through the stress again.

Numbers are not issued in sequence. Just because u got a 493, doesn't mean there were only 7 left. Buddies of mine, 9 of them, got inline and were phoned in all at the same time, there seqence numbers were all over the place....some had numbers in the 100s, some in the 300's, etc.
If I don't get one, I will post my sad story. hahaahah

FFRCobra,

You may be right about the "out of sequence" thing, but my understanding was that the last of the numbers were gone by noon-ish, and I don't know of anybody who got a number the next day.

There was a thread like this last year, and some of us reported back our findings after the big event. I haven't looked for the thread, but again, I believe all numbers were spoken for fairly early in the day. Additionally, there were rumors that blocks of numbers had been set aside for the larger commercial interests (Boyd Coddington, etc), as well as friends and families of state politicians. This might help account for the apparent hopping around of numbers.

In anycase, I would definitely not count on any SB100 numbers being available the next day...the trend from the beginning was that the numbers were getting used up earlier and earlier each year, to the point that they are now gone the first day.

2004 = all numbers gone by last week in February (I received #395 and it was not in sequence).
2005 = approx. 3-3.5 days
2006 = approx. 4-5 hours
