You're joking right?! The CA DMV could care less about real vs replica. All they care about is raking in the tax money and keeping older engines off of the street. That's what the specially constructed lottery is all about.

As for vintage plates, it's my understanding that vintage plates are only allowed on vehicles manufactured prior to 1964. That doesn't include replicas. Unless of course you manage to somehow get your registered as a 1963 and then watch out because if they catch you there will be 'll to pay!

These are called "Personalized Plates" in California. They can be used on any passenger car. There is also a catagory called Historical Vehicle that you may be refering to. They are able to be used on cars of a certain age but I am not sure of how old. The "Personalized Plates" are the property of the owner, and can be transfered to other vehicles ownesd by the same individual, or ultimately surrendered.

No, I'm not kidding. The real vs. replica debate has been going on for so long now on Club Cobra that there is nobody left that has not heard about it. Evan's neighbor has checked into a mental institution.

Default CA CSX4000 Plates

Was not a problem for me getting CSX4794. Know there are others out there as well. I did explain it was the car ID number on my application. Maybe I got away with something. Just don't know what it is.
