Default Registration Correction to SB100

I bought my car in 2001, before SB100. It is registered as a '65. I want to correct the registration and re-register under SB100. Anyone out there know the procedure for this? The DMV's around here dissagree on how to do it.

You have two choices:

1. Take your title to the DMV and fill out a request for "Title Correction", which I believe is the same form as the "New Title" (124?). From there you will need a CHP Vin verification, maybe a brake and lamp inspection, and you will need to get your SPF smogged certified - either by year of block or thru SB100 (next year).

2. Contact the Involuntary Title department of the DMV in Sacramento, and they have a complete process to re-title your SPF - HOWEVER, it will be far more laborious, since they will require a complete statement of construction, in order to determine whether your SPF meets the definition of Specially Constructed (you may be required to contact the previous and/or original owner for complete documentation). If the DMV agrees that your SPF is an SPCNS, then you will go thru the same process above, however a bond maybe required (about 1->1.5% of the value of your SPF). Also, the CHP may be instructed to issue you a new VIN, as opposed to using your existing VIN.

At the end of the day, however, the DMV may find that your SPF was originally titled as a 1965 and force you to go thru #2 above, even if you have already gone thru #1 above - this happened to me.

Good luck,
Randy R...

FWIW, the procedure I was given at the DMV on Jan 2 was to go to the CHP verification that the car meets SPCNS requirements, then go to the DMV for SP100 sequence number. This is NOT what some did (successfully) last year at the SAME DMV... they got an SB100 number followed by a CHP visit, then BAR.

I'm wondering two things:
1. Did anyone out there re-register THIS YEAR under SB100 and if so, what procedure was followed.
2. Any guess on what the CHP is going to do when I show up for verification that the vehicle meets SPCNS... like remove the current VIN and take my plates?

Why are u re-registering. If u have current plates/registration and u have not gotten a notice of title revocation from Sarcramento and u obviously do not smog a 1965....ummmmm why?
People jump the hoops to get SB100 because that is 1 of 2 ways to get smog exempt, that is it. U are already are smog exempt and obviously not on the hot list.
