Terry - Sounds like your car is registered by the engine and is legally smoged. Check your registration. The year of the vehicle should be the year manufactured. If it says 1969 Ford then you will need to change it.

If it say 2001 (+/-) SPCNS then you are in good shape.

tcrist 10-21-2007 10:25 AM

Terry,

Mine says "date first sold" 00/00/0000, "class" BE, "make" SPCNS, "year" 2005(which was the year that I registered the Cobra in my name). Note: My Cobra was built by Claissic Roadster Ltd. as a demo car and the guy that I purchased it from bought it from CR LTD when they decided to sell it. He bought it here in Ca.

Terry:

I "think" you are fine but what I think and .25 will get you an old newspaper! I'd like to suggest you talk to someone at DMV but you'll get 15 different answers from 15 people.

As noted in various other discussions, your car can be registered (for smog requirements) by year of engine or through SB100. SB100 requires no pollution control devices. Year of engine requires those devices specific to that engine year. Sounds like that is where you are. As long as California got all their registration $$$ thay should be happy. Did CHP apply a vin?- just curious.

Good luck. Let us know what you ultimately decide on.

Make: SPCNS & Year Sold: 00/00/0000!

You're cool Terry.

Your car is registered correctly.

Your car is registered as an SPCNS by "year-of-block", 1969.

No worries, mate!:)

jdog
P.S. Get some sleep tonight, OK?;)

tcrist 10-21-2007 04:04 PM

Thank you JDOG.

Terry,
As the manufacture had its own sticker with a vin number on it that is the one that is on the BAR sticker and on my registration.

Terry

Edit: Answered Terry Brown's question.

MaSnaka 10-21-2007 05:28 PM

Terry, The sticker the BAR placed on my car has the SB# on it. It also has the year of block and displacement. The BAR techy asked me if I was registering the body style or the block. Some blocks are not CA approved because they were from another state, therefore using the body is a better choice. Hopefully your covered but I thought my experience might help. Good luck!

MaSnaka,

So the sticker number in "RED" in the upper right hand corner of the BAR sticker is the SB100#? I have tried to take a picture of the BAR sticker but every time I try with a flash there is to much reflection and without the flash it is to dark.

Terry

MaSnaka 10-21-2007 09:35 PM

Terry,
PM me your email address and I can send you a photo copy of my sticker. I just don't know how to attach it to a PM. But to answer your question, no the red number in the RH corner is not the SB number. The SB number is across the bottom just above the bar code. It reads "SB100 sequence 2005274aa inspection body" (year 2005 and number 274).

Hi. I live in Manteca as well. I have a Cobra with SB100 title. If you would like to come by and take a look at my reg and BAR sticker, just let me know. We can probably come up with the answer.

P.S. I am a reformed former car dealer and know the DMV paperwork pretty well.:

You can kinda see it.

tcrist 10-22-2007 08:55 AM

Terry, That looks nothing like the one I have. It could be because mine was done about 15 years ago. I'll see if I can get some backlight and take a picture with no flash and post it.

Thanks to all
Terry

Terry,
My sticker looks just like the one TB posted.

Calbullet 10-22-2007 03:31 PM

Terry they didn't have SB100 15 years ago.

tcrist 10-22-2007 04:15 PM

JDOG,

As my Cobra was first registered around 15 years ago and I do not have an SB100 am I still ok on registration?

Terry

jdog 10-22-2007 04:42 PM

Yes!

You could get an SB100 number in Jan if your worried about having to smog it. But for now your fine.

jdog:)

tcrist 10-22-2007 06:22 PM

Thanks, JDOG

I don't think I will worry about it until they tell me that I am going to have to do it.

Thanks everyone for you help.

Got the Bug 10-23-2007 03:10 PM

My visit to the CHP in San Jose lasted all of 10 minutes...I was actually done before my scheduled appt. :D They looked through my DMV docs and completed form Reg 124 (a mulit-part form called "Application for Assigned Vehicle Identificiation Number").

The two officers immediately pointed to the SPF VIN plate and chassis number stamped on the front cross bar, and completed the form using my SPF Chassis number as the VIN number.

What "Body Type Model" code should be indicated on the DMV registration? I noticed that mine has "CP". Thought it might be the code for a Coupe when it should be CV.

Hey Doug,

Congrats! I'm glad you were treated so well by the SJ CHP office.

Regards,
Randy R...
