Rodney,

You made the better choice with the KMP. The "other" one you and I both looked at doesn't come close to what yours will end up being. And you'll end up doing it your way. This is going to happen. We'll get a petition going or something and descend on the Director's office. You did everything correctly. See what Saturday brings.

While I'm using a little humor to help get me through the situation, I do want to say that the employees at Santa Clara DMV did an excellent job. They were a well-organized machine. Unfortunately for me, they made one mistake. We all make them.

Are you kidding? I would have posted the good news first thing. I figure no one wants to hear about my sob story. Anyway, Saturday and Monday yielded nothing.

Thank you for asking. They say they have "a place" for me. We'll see. I'm planning for 2009.

Talk About Your Cars Its Just Some Paper Work, To Me It Was Alot Harder To Build The Car.

ratsnst1 - Why do you capitalize the first letter of every word?...that's the burning question on my mind.

Rod - Still thinking about your situation. Did they give you an indication they would get back to you regarding your number?

Red, the manager of DMV has spoken to someone in Sacramento at least twice, of course, this is what she's telling me, but I believe her. According to the person in Sacramento, my certificate "will be mailed in February." She has also said that a person in Sacramento has seen my name in the paperwork and there's a place(holder) for me. Bottom line is that I don't feel anything is certain. The DMV manager never seems to commit or qualifies her remarks to make me feel uncomfortable about ultimately getting one in 2008. She told me that if I do not receive one in the mail in the next few weeks to call her back again. And I will.

Rick, yes, I would agree with you, and that is why I'm resigned to do it all over again in 2009. I'm channeling Bill Murray.

I can only hope that there's someone there in Sacramento sifting through all 500 of them attempting to identify any fraudulent or illegal applications and will award me one. As an example, the guy in Pleasanton that Tony R saw getting 5 of them.

"It is what it is."

Exclamation "I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture"

War's over, man. DMV dropped the big one.
Bluto: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he's rolling.
Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...
[thinks hard]
Bluto: the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!
[runs out, alone; then returns]
Bluto: What the #uck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer...
Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.
Bluto: We're just the guys to do it.
D-Day: Let's do it.
Bluto: LET'S DO IT!

P.S. Who's with me!

There are several people, including friends, who think I should go into the DMV and hop up and down and scream about their mistake and the outcome. While I've never been one to shy away from a "battle", I think in this situation "resignation" is the way to go. Are they going to issue 501 this year? No. Will screaming at them help my situation for next year? No. I suppose I could write my congressional representative, but that'll will do absolutely nothing either.

While unlikely at this point, there's still a slim possibility of snagging one. They said to hold tight and watch the mail. There's a glimmer of hope.

jdog, one of my favorite movies of all time and one of my favorite scenes of all time.

Rodney,

Keep the pressure on them! It's probably time to begin escalating this to the next level above the manager at the Santa Clara office. When was the last time you talked to the DMV?

I still think that you have a shot at getting an SB100 number.

Yes, I think I still have a shot. Hey, who knows, hell could freeze over.

I just spoke with the DMV last Friday, so I'll give her another ring this Friday or next week. She told me a couple of weeks. I've begun writing a letter to the director in Sacramento, but I'm hoping that the wheels are actually in motion as we speak. So, I won't have to recount my story in some 800-page epic novel.
